That's crazy that the Nats and Braves only play each other once. Who has the home field? 3 games in Washington

Five Decades of Arhoolie
Neal Pomea replied to mjzee's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Ever since the 1970s I was aware of recorded Cajun and Creole music from the 1920s and 30s through an outstanding series of lps (long-playing records) on the market by the Arhoolie Records label. I will always be grateful to producer Chris Strachwitz for making that music available! It's as if it's in my DNA now! Some of these remarkable lps are still available from the Arhoolie Web site, with these titles: Louisiana Cajun Music Volume 1, First Recordings (OT108); Louisiana Cajun Music Volume 2, The Early 30s(OT109); Louisiana Cajun Music Volume 3, The String Bands of the 1930s (OT110); Louisiana Cajun Music Volume 4, The 30s to the 50s (OT111); Louisiana Cajun Music Volume 5, 1928-1938 (OT114); Amade Ardoin, His Original Recordings 1928-1934 Volume 6 (OT124); Leo Soileau, Louisiana Cajun Music Volume 7 (OT125). -
Earl Weaver. The angels better not be making any boneheaded plays in the field today. He'll be up in their face and on their case.

Washington signs Rafael Soriano to a two year deal, 28M. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2013/01/15/nationals-agree-to-terms-with-rafael-soriano/

Agree with Brad. I think there may be quite a few inductees next year, including Maddux, Glavine, Frank Thomas, maybe Biggio and Bagwell, Piazza. I even believe they will eventually induct Bonds and Clemens, and maybe not before too long either. As for integrity, they couldn't bar Ty Cobb even though he was a hateful, mean, and troubled man whom even teammates hated. He was just too good. Would he have a hard time getting in today? Probably so. I don't think the HOF needs to be fixed. The writers are reflecting today's values, as the writers of the past did in their time too.

Gene Clark, Roadmaster. (is that title an inside joke about his fear of flying?)

Not sure speed was performance enhancing in a manner comparable to steroids. Not sure. Seems more like a truck driver's drug to deal with travel woes than something to give you an edge. I can't imagine travel was as comfortable in the 50s and 60s as today. I'd like to know more about Doc Ellis and LSD! That's some kind of enhancement!!! When you see a list of players who did NOT make the HOF on the first ballot, it's amazing! Cy Young, Eddie Collins, Nap Lajoie, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Jimmie Foxx! and others. It's no slight at all to Biggio, or Piazza, or Schilling if this is his first year.

It should be rare to get in on your first year of eligibility, but Biggio scored high and can probably make it in next year. Bagwell might still be under a cloud of suspicion. Anyone who says "They all juiced" ought to look at the careers of Griffey Jr. and Frank Thomas. MLB Network did a good comparison of Morris and Lolich, who got almost no consideration for the HOF. Very similar numbers and careers, but no love for Lolich. What's Morris' secret?

Has anyone seen the spaghetti Western, Django, to which this movie is paying tribute?

What do our linguistic "traditionalists" think of this?

She can't math. http://www.lolwithme.org/?p=1912 That's ok. I can't science. (I has a sad.) -
I recommend getting Breaking Out of New Orleans, 1922-1929. 4 CD set on JSP Includes Original Tuxedo Jazz Band, Louis Dumaine's Jazzola Eight, Sam Morgan's Jazz Band, Piron's New Orleans Orchestra, Ory's Sunshine Orchestra, Fate Marable's Society Syncopators, Cook's Dreamland Orchestra, Freddie Keppard's Jazz Cardinals, New Orleans Bootblacks, Chicago Footwarmers, et al. Also Chicago South Side, 1923-1930 on Fremeaux, 2 CDs

New Orleans Brass bands play a lot of spiritual music. Look for the thread on the American Music Records label. Eureka Brass Band: http://www.amazon.com/Orleans-Funeral-Parade-Eureka-Brass/dp/B000001YIJ/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_1

This turns out to be easier with the new version! When I burn the CDR it gives me an option to name the artist and the album, and it seems to be picking up the names of the song directly from the CD after having burned it with Roxio! I used to have to hunt for an album titled Unknown, or songs named Track 1, Track 2 etc. and rename everything one at a time. This seems easier.

I can't see how to name my playlists when ripping a commercial CD that already has metadata. iTunes names the playlist for me. I prefer to do this myself. Haven't yet transferred music from a CD-R, but I suppose iTunes asks you to name the playlist yourself in this case. Is that correct?
-
Something's different about adding playlists. I used to be able to name a new playlist myself then drag the songs over to it. Now all I can see is a way to add a new playlist, but with whatever naming convention iPod thinks I should have. I don't know what's going to happen when I try to drag files from my hard drive to iTunes. Don't see if that is even possible anymore.

DC made a nice pick up in Denard Span, a lead off batter for us! If we can sign LaRoche again, we will have a super solid defense!

I see it when I first arrive but the right column disappears when I click View New Content. Google Chrome.

Happy Birthday (a day late), Neal Pomea!

Thank you Paul! I had a good one on Nov. 6 with most election results going my way! I voted against the redistricting in Maryland, which passed though it looked like gerrymandering to me, but all the other initiatives and candidates I voted for prevailed. -
Have a great one!

I love the Jerry Seinfeld-Brian Regan conversation about "We can put a man on the moon but we can't do this?" from Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIN8JzCjY_Y go to 3:00

Looks like I was ahead of the curve when I bought a retro Astros cap last year that is the blue model with H and star! I much prefer this uniform, anyway. I believe the '65 uniform had the word Astros but with a swoosh of some sort to suggest a shooting star, no? I remember Ron Brand!
