  1. Still stinging from last Friday's game when DC had a 6-1 lead yet lost to St L, but I sort of hope St L takes it tonight so that they are messed up by as many days off as Detroit's going to get. COMPLETELY unfair and so Selig-like for the late season hot team with the inferior regular season record to win. Why even play 162 games? Let's see what happens if St L cools off. In the end I will root for the NL team because I still do root for my league representative in the World Series just about every year. Guess I am old fashioned that way. Irrational holding on to the League concept, I know.
  2. A certain Spanish tinge
  3. Felt bad for Rolen on that error. But it takes a whole lot of plays to win or lose a single game, much less a series.
  4. Zimmermann and Clippard struck out the side in 7 and 8. Don't know what Storen did in 9, but the bullpen did better today! All bets off for tomorrow. The "Werth it" meme has to do with bitter fans who thought the owners spent too much on his contract. There's always people concerned about how somebody else spent their own money.
  5. Thrashing by St L! Whoa! Is anybody rooting for the Cardinals? They're not like America's favorite middle of the country team anymore. Wish I could be at Wednesday's game in DC!
  6. Late game dramatics in St. Louis, Nationals win! Werth saved the game with a great catch at the wall, and the relievers came through, with help from a generous strike zone!
  7. I'm rooting for Baltimore. For Mike Flanagan.
  8. Yes, Oakland and Baltimore deserve a lot of credit! This one's gonna hurt the loser a long, long time.
  9. True. We had the Washington Homestead Grays for a decade.
  10. That's funny! In honor of Selig, name 'em Money Stunt I and Money Stunt II.
  11. Where would you locate two new teams? Is it time for Monterey yet? That would be awesome. San Juan? The Expos were stationed there part time for a year. I'm just glad the league didn't contract a few years ago, or else DC would not have a team at all.
  12. Not a bad idea! Best 2 out of 3.
  13. Who's pitching for Atlanta and St. Louis on Friday?
  14. They are all in the playoffs, but what is at stake is winning the division and home field "advantage," which will be a real advantage in the future but not so much this year. Division winners Yankees Tigers Athletics Wild card Orioles Rangers UNLESS Orioles win tonight v Tampa and Yankees lose to Red Sox, which would tie them with NY. Not sure but I believe they would actually play a one game playoff to decide which one is division champ and which one is wild card. I might be wrong about that. Bottom line: It's not so much your argument but your sentiment I agree with, that Selig is an idiot.
  15. Congratulations to Oakland, but look out Texas! What a final day of the season! Not quite like last year, but pretty darn good. Still to come: Orioles drama.
  16. Nationals top Philly 5-1. We will be playing the winner of Braves and Cardinals Sunday. And I hope the days off don't hurt us.
  17. Also, congratulations to Baltimore! They were my local team from 1985 when I moved to Maryland until 2005 when the Expos moved to DC. There has NEVER been a year in MLB when both Washington and Baltimore were in the post-season. No other World Series match up would be more improbable this year.
  18. Note that the Washington Nationals franchise (formerly the Montreal Expos) won the NL East when Atlanta lost to Pittsburgh last night. Manager Davey Johnson is reserving Cy Young candidate and 21 game winner Gio Gonzalez for a start on either Saturday or Sunday, going with left hander Tom Gorzelanny for tonight's game, if it can be played at all after today's all day soaking rain. A good night for the city! And time to get our mojo working again!!!
  19. Poo Yaille! We're getting creamed by the Cards tonight! We'll win the next 2 of the 3.
  20. The Cajun/Creole selections are not rare. What they needed were some titles by Angelas LeJeune or Douglas Bellard and Kirby Riley. Still I am sure I will get it. I don't have most of this stuff.
  21. Kind of grates on me that the local media is saying this is the first baseball postseason DC has seen since 1933, when DC actually had a dynasty in the Negro Leagues, the Grays (splitting time with Pittsburgh) until 1948. A collective decision to forget city history. I am not the only one on the DC baseball talk boards who feels this way, but 1933 seems to be the misinformation that's sticking in the Columbian district.
  22. 20th win today for Gio Gonzalez, and a strong case for the Cy Young award.
  23. I think that was against DC, wasn't it? Don't worry, y'all will get better soon by building the farm system.
  24. What? Chipper Jones should be a first ballot Hall of Famer! No contest. He's getting some nice send offs and prizes around the league on his final tour! Hoping we bounce back this week against the Dodgers. Going to the next Monday day game against Milwaukee.
  25. Have a good one!
