Good luck with Edouard to friends along the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast!

"The kind of music celebrated here has never had mainstream appeal, and it never will." If he means "jazz," then the very first sentence is EPIC FAILURE and so so false. Unbelievable! Let's just rewrite history.

Nothing political here but when can we assign the word "blog" to the lexical trash heap? It sounds like a byproduct of acid reflux, like bile. "I had the bitter taste of blog in my mouth." Carry on.

Richard M. Jones' Jazz Wizards, Jazzin' Baby Blues, on Victor 21203A, 11-7-1927 (side B was Boar Hog Blues) What a rumbling start! Great tuba by Cyrus St. Clair, as usual.

Nationals sign Cristian Guzman to a 2-year deal ($16 mil is a "bargain") and trade closer/set up man Jon Rauch to D-backs for our second baseman of the future, Bonifacio. Guess it's good by Felipe Lopez! Those are probably good moves. It's not easy being a baseball fan in DC. Sports radio spends more time on Redskins-Wizards-Mystics-United coverage even at the height of baseball season, and Nats scores appear in the Washington Post sports section beneath the fold, especially when there's a big time golf story like Michelle Wie getting disqualified for not signing her scorecard (sic) etc.

Depressing Day on Organissimo

Hello muddah! -
I am glad you are ok and hope your mom gets better soon! What a frightening experience! I had an accident years ago on the Washington DC beltway. The kind people who stopped to help me thought for sure I was a goner. An 18-wheeler struck my Toyota Starlet from behind and spun me around so that it was pushing me forward while I was facing it! I eventually spun over and dragged across 4 lanes of busy traffic to land in the median area. I got away with glass and gravel in my elbow and no other harm. I was very lucky to be alive! I have never been able to ride in a small car since. I hope the insurance and the other driver do the right thing.

Sounds like an effort to be in line with copyright term in the U.S. If adopted, will it restore copyright protection to material that has been considered public domain in Europe for a while now? That would negatively impact reissue labels like JSP, Document, etc., although I suppose that would be congratulated by many here.

I think home field advantage in the World Series should be determined by which league did better against the other league in interleague competition at the end of the regular season. Having it all rest on an exhibition game like the All Star game is fairly ridiculous to me.

They're only keeping alive 26 titles from their Takoma Records holdings. Hang your head and cry. It's theft from the public domain all over again.

Summer Vacation/Holiday Plans

It's not really jazz-oriented, but this year the Festival of American Folklife on the National Mall will have some great music from Texas: Western Swing, country songwriters, Tex-Mex, blues, Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco. Check it out! Free. -

Gas prices will never come down, but maybe my salary will go up in the future to offset the expense! Planning to drive to Nova Scotia in August, first to the Acadian area along the Bay of Fundy to celebrate my Cajun ancestry, then to Cape Breton and Cheticamp to see puffins and whales and gorgeous scenery. I've never been through New England so the drive should be great! -
FWIW, Fahey claimed his best guitar playing was on Fare Forward Voyagers. See these notes at the Fahey Files: http://www.johnfahey.com/pages/ffv2.html

They're Internet only albums. 1 and 2 are all taken from his previous releases. 3 has some outtakes and alternate titles for songs from his album Railroad. If you don't have any Fahey, all 3 would be good and represent a variety of styles. 1. Songs from Live from Tasmania; Vol. 2 Death Chants, Breakdowns, and Military Waltzes; and Old Fashioned Love. Boodle Am Shake and Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning are with an old New Orleans-style jazz band. 2. Songs from Vol. 1 Blind Joe Death, Vol. 3 Dance of Death and Other Plantation Favorites, and Old Fashioned Love. His stuff can be hard to find. ETA: I got this information from a member of the "International Fahey Committee" on the Yahoo Group John Fahey Guitar

Sorry this happened! Take them out of their jackets for sure and dry them all off. Once they are dry you can clean the records with distilled water only and a soft cloth. Tap water has too many chemicals.
