Heads up to RT customers... It sounds like RT may be no longer. While the web site is still up and apparently taking orders, the owner alledgedly filed for bankruptcy on 10/15/2005. Caveat Emptor.

Whoops... forgot to include what's on the TT. Death Cab for Cutie - Plans. Nice major label "debut" cut on three sides with a bonus track on the fourth. Paul Weller - Illumination. Lou Donaldson - LD +3. Japanese Toshiba.

Interesting. According to a member of a different listserve, most OJC's, at least the US variety are actually analog mastered despite what is printed on the spine or cover. He works for Fantasy and has been involved in the reissue program and vouches for US pressed OJC's only, he did not have any info on the German based OJC's. Assuming he is correct, the problem with OJC's may not be mastering, but the horribly thin pressings and vinyl quality! At one point, someone on the list actually contributed a posting on how to determine the age of OJC pressings. I'll post it if I can find it.

Thanks guys! Sad to say that there was very little spinning yesterday, unless you count the drives in my laptop and iPod. Does digitized LP's on the iPod count? I did receive a GC to Euclid from the in laws and the JBL On Stage will let me listen to the iPod at work. Thanks again. I only wish I had more time to hang out here!

Anyone use one of the many larger iPod speaker stations with the charging bases. The Bose is out of my price range as I'd like to spend around $150 - $175 tops. Any recommendations for the iBoom, Altec Lansing, etc...? Thanks!

Jimmy Smith - Bucket! (NY USA stereo) Ben Webster - "Rare Live Performance 1962" on Jazz Anthology Nat Adderley and The Big Sax Section - That's Right! (Riverside mono DG blue label)

Thanks Jim. I checked my spreadsheets at about the same time and found the same. Would anyone consider these essential KB sessions or strictly for hard core KB fans?

On the greasey side this weekend... Freddie Roach - Mo' Greens Please (Liberty UA) Freddie Roach - Good Move (Liberty UA) Baby Face Willette - Face to Face (Jap Toshiba)

If the organ jazz in anything like the Tenor Sax book, I'd pass. While the label books are comprehensive, the genre books are more generic and only list two to three titles per artist tops. If you absolutely have to have it, check out Dusty Groove's selection of Jazz Critique books... usually discounted and w/o the international shipping.

If anyone absolutely has to have Swingin' on vinyl, Paris Jazz Corner has the "original" Japanese release for $48. Any one know if it any of these sessions were available as LT "originals?"

Heard this tonight on the drive home... Interview with Larry Appelbaum re: the Monk / Trane 1957 Carnegie sessions to be released by Blue Note / Mosaic. Edit: I guess an actual link would help: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4946796

Three from these week's trip to Euclid... Art Taylor - A.T.'s Delight (run of the mill Blue Label) Bennie Green - Walkin' & Talkin' (Jap Tosh) Stanley Turrentine - Comin' Your Way ('87 "first" release)... I know, I know. It was first released on the Jubilee Shout two-fer and yes, I already have that set, but the obsessive compulsive completist in me *had* to have it. Next up: Volume 2 of The Night Train to Nashville 2LP set on Lost Highway.

Dang... I knew Joe did well with his auctions, but haven't really followed them lately due to the stratospheric prices. He's been doing this for a long, long time... I remember those b/w auction lists pre-ebay. While I can't see myself dropping that kind of jack, it's nice to be able to stop by the shop and lust after those rare, original pressings in person. Hopefully, the ebay business helps him keep the B & M open for us locals.

If I recall correctly, BMW and VW both had promotions for cars with iPod ready head units. The BMW unit offered rudimentary control of the iPod from the head unit: You could choose one of eight playlists (defined by the iPod owner) directly from the head unit... that's it. There are also third party head units available. Alpine makes a unit that integrates with any dock connector iPod and allows you to control the iPod directly from the head unit and drill down by playlist, artist, album, song, etc... It also charges the iPod when plugged in. Kenwood used to make a unit as well. I switch between the cassette adapter and Griffin iTrip myself. The iTrip is especially useful in hotel rooms with poor radio reception / selection: just tune into the iTrip frequency and listen to your own broadcast!

No kidding! I'm actually living in an old house (ca 1866) in the downtown Belleville Historic district. Not sure how close you'll be, but we actually have a live jazz and blues club/bar downtown these days. Internet cafes and/or hotspots are scattered throughout, so you may not be totaly w/o access. Make sure you leave plenty of time to hit Euclid's jazz section. -

No worries about hurting the iPod. If you're concerned about battery life use powered speakers to minimize the load the iPod needs to drive.

Click on "Lo-Fi Version" at the bottom of the page. Bingo... no pics, no avatars, no buttons, less formatting... just text and smilies.

Just blew through my first 50 and going with the 40/month plan for now. emusic and my belated purchase of an iTrip have rejuvenated my iPod! My question is, and I think I know the answer, does emusic have a "# of songs" search? That would be a pretty useful feature... have 6 songs left? Search for albums with 6 songs and have at it!

Wow... for the Toshiba?!? *Maybe* for the King, but even that is way high. Think any of the bidders are aware of the recent $30 Classic 200g reissue? Yikes...
