jcam_44 Posted April 12, 2015 Report Posted April 12, 2015 Tom Gruzo - "Say When" Bought it because its on the 9 Winds label. Definitely a departure from the standard 9 Winds album. Straight ahead and enjoyable album. Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Ilpo Saastoimenen "joujetsen juju" (love, Finland) have not played this record in at least 5 years...bought it because of Edward Vesala's involvement but it still confuses me. An odd record - definitely not "jazz" but it's really all over the map. Anyways, not many albums in my collection leave me scratching my head when I listen to it like this one. Is this a good thing!? sidewinder Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Donald Byrd/Johnny Coles 'Childs Play' (International Polydor) aka Duke Pearson 'Hush' Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 ^ yeah, I'm thinking that other than the Japanese pressing on Trio, this is my option for hearing the Hush sessions on LP. The recent Think! pressing of Angel Eyes is kinda crappy. Wish there was an earlier affordable pressing to compare (as the Polydor is a little out of my league). Quote
HutchFan Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) Chuck, You probably know this already, but that Pee Wee Russell Dot LP is also included in this not-difficult-to-find Dedication Series/"Salute to Newport" set: It'd likely be easier to find than the original Dot LP. clifford_thornton Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Have not listened to much Pee Wee Russell and need to rectify that. Listening to the Moodsville on the stoney-phones right now and it's glorious! Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Lee Konitz - Very Cool (Japanese Verve/Polydor) I just played this same record yesterday! Now playing: Bunky Green - The Places We've Never Been (Vanguard). Apparently, this was issued on CD but I've never seen it on a shelf, new or used. It's one drawback is the twangy bass sound of the late 70s/early 80s that just drives me nuts. Twang, twung, twang, twung... ugh. Quote
mjazzg Posted April 16, 2015 Report Posted April 16, 2015 Dewey Redman - Tarik [bYG] As much about Blackwell and Favors as Dewey. Nice Quote

jeffcrom Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 Tony Scott - 52nd St. Scene (Coral stereo). A beautiful thing, this album. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 Played last night but couldn't post: Junior Cook - Somethin's Cookin' (Muse). What a nice date. I really like this one for some reason. I have had it on CD for many years and it doesn't get in the player often enough, especially since I started spinning vinyl again, so it's good to have this on record and get back to enjoying it. clifford_thornton Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 Sunny Murray - Big Chief (Eremite) Lovely session. I have this on a nice French Pathé LP from the late '60s. Quote
HutchFan Posted April 17, 2015 Report Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) Jan Garbarek / Bobo Stenson Quartet - Dansere Lovely. I listened to Witchi-Tai-To earlier today. Not sure which one I like better; they're so different. Edited April 17, 2015 by HutchFan Quote
