Royal Oak Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Joe Maini plays alto on this. I read Lenny Bruce's biography many years ago - he and Joe Maini hung out together for a while IIRC. I'd not heard him until I played this record., Quote

Seems like between the small-label cheap pressing and dudes jamming it often, many copies are pretty rinked. Communications Network is a curious artifact though I wouldn't call it a particularly fantastic album. Also, the America is a must-own. I still have my Goody pressing of Freedom and Unity bought back in the day. Quote

The Thornton was an odd one to rip off, but I guess he was pretty well-known in the scene at the time. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Ha, same thing happens to me quite often. Followed by "what am I doing with all these records by ____ in here??" Quote
Clunky Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Marion Brown----la Placita ------(Timeless Jpn) comments on another thread prompted getting this one out again. On the whole I'm pretty positive about the session although I can see why the guitarist is singled out for criticism. Ross' solos are pretty dull and don't quite seem to fit. As a fan of Brown I wouldn't be without it. Quote

Royal Oak Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 Another from the recently bought collection. This appears to be tracks from two CTI albums (Summertime and From The Hot Afternoon). I've managed 20+ years of jazz listening without knowingly listening to any CTI albums. I like this.... Quote

Tecnically A&M/CTI, but still, those are two very deceptively great recrds, Imo, with the first one not available on CD at anything resembling a reasonable price, too bad about that. Don't shy away from Desmond's CTI/CTI albums either, although they are on the whole less "productions" than the A&M ones. What kind of a release was this anyway, "Mayfair", curious about that. Quote
