The first LP from the 6-LP/4-CD box set Syl Johnson: The Complete Mythology on Numero. That first LP has all of Johnson's Federal singles, and Numero did a good job with the monk-period cover design. There is some fabulous music and a few clunkers here.

Good stuff ....

the discogs guy hasnt responded to : "hey was wondering if you still have this record for sale that you have listed.....--- is that a red flag that its good i just didnt buy and wait for invoice?

usually people don't respond to questions like that; doesn't reflect on their ability to fulfill an order. Check the feedback and decide for yourself if it's worthwhile.

Soul, R & B, funk, soul-jazz 45s tonight:

Freddie Roach – Brown Sugar/Next Time I See You (BN)
Aretha Franklin – My Song (Atlantic promo – same song on flip)
Jackie Moore – Precious, Precious/Willpower (Atlantic)
Ella Brown – Touch Me/A Woman Left Lonely (Lanor). Tasty guitar fills by Duane Allman on this one.
Charles Williams – Please Send Me Someone to Love/Bacon Butter Fat (Mainstream). Don Pullen on organ.
Irma Thomas – Set Me Free/Don't Mess With My Man (Ron). I literally bought this record off a guy on the street in New Orleans.
Parliament – P-Funk/Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Casablanca)
Maceo and the Macks – Parrty, parts 1 & 2 (People)
Syl Johnson – Take Me to The River/Could I Be Falling In Love (Hi)

Mr. Hampton B. Coles (Ret.), aka Bruce Hampton - One Ruined Life (Of a Bronze Tourist) (Pine Tree). Col. Bruce is at his most surreal on this 1978 LP, his first since the breakup of the infamous Hampton Grease Band. This is a seriously weird record.

Very nice line-up with Ella Brown being my personal highlight .... her take on Dan Penn's "A Woman Left Lonely" is priceless and should have granted her a a more prominent label contract .... but seemingly the year 1972 was already an early sundown for Southern Soul ....
