The Ornette is wild! It was certainly a mix of styles across the morning. Love the Ornette! Looking at them again I realise they are all titles I purchased either directly or indirectly because of posts on this board. So there was a connection. Edited February 28, 2019 by mjazzg Quote
Clunky Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 I’m afraid I ditched the Rod Levitt album pictured. I had to say goodbye to around 100 LPs in a vain attempt to keep the collection under control. It’s not bad by any means but didn’t grab me enough. Quote
mjazzg Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 It's not the strongest of the four I have but it still has its moments, quite a few of them. I fear a cull is imminent here too unless I plan to sleep on or eat off LPs Quote

paul secor Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 I only have the Riverside (OJC) Levitt. I like it enough that I'd like to hear the RCAs. Quote

Clunky Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 Sun Ra——-Monorails & Satellites Vol 1-3———-(Cosmic Myth) first impression of today’s arrival is off a nicely put together package. Sound is generally cleaner compared to the rather dull sound of the Evidence CD I have of Vol 1. There is some distortion evident on louder parts of Alter Destiny ( end of side 1) which I don’t hear on the Evidence CD. This may be because NoNoise buried that detail and others on the CD! Pressing quality as with other Cosmic Myth releases is very good- generally very quiet and excellent dynamics. Quote

I don't really know Ra's solo work and I wonder whether it's rather a big intro. edit to add: just found it on Spotify to trial Edited March 1, 2019 by mjazzg Quote

If I gave in to everything winking at me from Honest Jon’s site I wouldn’t be able to get through the door and would be relegated to my garage (in addition to being bankrupt).. Having said that, the LP of ‘Discipline 27 II’ looks tempting. 4 hours ago, porcy62 said: The Man Himself signed my Liberty of that one ! Edited March 1, 2019 by sidewinder Quote

And, to add insult and injury they've opened a new shop half an hour away so I don't even have to schlep out West if I want the physical retail experience...b@@~~~ds! Quote
sidewinder Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 (edited) Kings Cross ? - Could be an expensive outing as I guess Gearbox Records is just around the corner as well. If this carries on maybe Mole will resurrect themselves on Grays Inn Road.. We could do with something like that Out West. Never been the same since the great little jazz specialist shop closed in Bath. Having said that, vinyl is on a roll in Bridport and Plymouth ! Edited March 1, 2019 by sidewinder Quote
mjazzg Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 The only saving grace of the new Kings Cross is that it's very small. I'm not too sure that Gearbox is open to the public although I have visited. There's a nice shop in Exeter to break the journey between Bridport and Plymouth. Quote
