Let the format wars cease here I find it quite odd that increasingly on this board someone says how pleased they are with the format they are listening to, and have just invested in, only for someone to poor cold water on their enjoyment by questioning how could they be hearing what they say the are hearing because of the format they have chosen to listen to. Let's just respect eachother's different choices for accessing great music without having to always question, shall we?. Just a suggestion. Edited August 29, 2020 by mjazzg Quote
sidewinder Posted August 29, 2020 Report Posted August 29, 2020 (edited) 2LP version. Nice sound, very nice performance (although the drummer does have a tendency to speed up). Edited August 29, 2020 by sidewinder Quote

NP: Buddy Tate playing "These Foolish Things" will tear your stinkin' heart out! And where's Claude Hopkins on the cover!?!? He's handling the piano, and he's a mofo! (in a deliciously stride-y and understated way.) ... They forgot about Pops' man Arvell Shaw on bass too. Edited August 30, 2020 by HutchFan Quote

sidewinder Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) Very nicely remastered by Dave Sikula, richer sound than the original CD. Love it ! Additional unreleased track ‘Labyrinth’ downloadable. Edited August 30, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
sidewinder Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 First copy I’ve had of this Herbie/Tootie/Heath Family/Cherry opus. A UK issue - hmm. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 30, 2020 Report Posted August 30, 2020 Sonic standout - I’ll bet it far improves on the original. Gearbox/Optimal production - lovely stuff. As usual, Davy throws some jazz in too. Quote

I have an original first pressing and a 2007 audiophile reissue of Folk, Blues & Beyond, yes the reissue is quieter, but those guys at Decca knew how do a record. At the cost of probably about a 20th of the cost of a decent original, I’m a happy camper. They have also reissued ‘The Holly Kaleidoscope’ as well for the RSD, on kaleidoscopic swirl vinyl. Again, this one sounds great though. I suspect these are being put out in tandem with a HD tracks streaming release, which seems to have been the case with the ‘Kawaida’ too. Same model that was used on the Rendell/Carr reissues. Edited August 30, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
