Includes the BB Express & and small group recordings (Giants). ---> original vinyls on RCA with various coverart & titles (irritations and duplicates possible ;-]]) Music is excellent 😁 👍 On 8/6/2024 at 5:32 PM, HutchFan said: My original vinyl Edited August 8, 2024 by jazzcorner text Quote

A pity Jamaladeen Tacuma didn`explore further the bass/percussion structure featured on "From The Land Of Sand" .... Quote
Rabshakeh Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 (edited) Roscoe Mitchell - More Cutouts On the back of this 1981 record is a reference to the "Leo Smith - Roscoe Mitchell Big Band that toured recently". I didn't know they had a big band at this time. Does anyone know whether it made any recordings? Or is this the group that made the great back to back Moers records Sketches of Bamboo and Bidding of a Rose? Edited August 8, 2024 by Rabshakeh Quote
HutchFan Posted August 9, 2024 Report Posted August 9, 2024 Now spinning: John Stowell - Golden Delicious (Inner City, 1977) with: Trumpet – Claudio Roditi Piano – Jim McNeely Bass – Mike Richmond, David Friesen (A2 only) Drums – Billy Hart Percussion – Dom Um Romão I really like this LP. It's Stowell's debut. Quote

It's Stowell's debut. I remember seeing Stowell play with just bass in a restaurant setting. As shown above, he has that unusual way of holding the guitar, almost like a lutier ( echoes of Julian Bream). The other solo guitarist I saw a number of times in similar settings was Gene Bertoncini. Funnily enough, I'm just listening to him on the Tone Poet LP of Wayne Shorter's 'Odyssey of Iska' - inspired casting. Edited August 9, 2024 by sidewinder Quote

Inspired casting . . . and inspired music! ❤️ Odyssey of Iska would likely be my desert-island choice for Wayne Shorter. Now listening to some James Moody, prompted by @Rabshakeh (on another thread): James Moody - Great Day (Argo, 1963) An excellent collaboration with Tom McIntosh. Sorta like their version of Miles & Gil Evans -- but a bit smaller in scale. Edited August 9, 2024 by HutchFan Quote
