When this one was announced as a Tone Poet I decided to sell my Toshiba for the same price as the Tone Poet would be. I never really liked the sound of it and assumed the Tone Poet would sound better. I assumed right. Lovely reissue of this classic :)

Shelly Manne - Essence (Galaxy, 1977)
with Lew Tabackin, Mike Wofford, and Chuck Domanico

An excellent, below-the-radar session.

That's good to hear, my favourite Jackie on the days when others aren't 🙃

Same applies for "French Concert" aka same Rhythm Section but Lee Konitz instead Lew Tabackin .... released on Galaxy in 1978 ....

Yep, arrived today. The latest instalment in my  recent Norma binge.  On first acquaintance I prefer the side of Damiani compositions over the one of Wheeler's, perhaps because I know the Kenny's in other versions.

And the music is terrific anyway ....

It is definitely and of course that’s what’s most important but the sound quality surprised me in a good way :)

Understood .... always a pleasure when great music receives an considerable sonic upgrade 👌👍 ....

Just playing The Cry again... When I bought it, the salesperson already commented on the great sound (and, of course, it's also a pleasure to have a physical store in walking distance where a record like this doesn't arrive unnoticed)... It's been a favorite record for a long time, normally I'm not in the market for fancy reissues of things I already have on CD...
