Pim Posted Sunday at 01:50 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:50 PM Amazing record. The title song is one of the most catchy modal jazz themes I know. Quote
Pim Posted Sunday at 03:17 PM Report Posted Sunday at 03:17 PM (edited) It took me long to get to this record. I think it was Johnny Dyani who took me there and now it's one of my favorites. You Ain't Gonna Know Me 'Cos You Think You Know Me is one of the most beautiful melodies I know. Edited Sunday at 03:28 PM by Pim Quote

It's not an orchestra, it's a quintet. Quote

Have several Verve LPs consisting of a small groups (combo) but have 'orchestra' in the title. Here is an example: Edited 3 hours ago by jazzcorner Quote

Niko Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I'll prefer an orchestra over a quartet that's being called a trio any time... Now playing, one of today's finds: Edited 2 hours ago by Niko Quote
corto maltese Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Milo Fine's duo with Steve Gnitka was called "The Milo Fine Free Jazz Ensemble". That seemed rather sad for Steve, I thought. Quote

Fourteen? Ten? I think it's more about having a (larger) group of musicians that covers all four of the instrument families; strings (e.g. bass), woodwinds (saxophone), brass (trumpet) and percussion (drums). A typical jazz quintet would do that, except, well, that it's not "large". 🙂 Edited 1 hour ago by Daniel A Quote
