Horace Silver 'The Stylings of Silver' (BN NY USA DG edition mono)

You've had a bit of a Blue Note mono afternoon :)

What's the distinction between the DG and other BNs? Are the DG ones the very heavy ones?

MG

Deep groove pressings have an indented ring near the perimeter of the label and (as they are Plastylite pressings) are in the heavy vinyl. The groove can be on both sides (usual in 47W63rd pressings) or (on some early NY USA pressings) just one side. Anything Plastylite in mono with an 'ear' is heaven to me. :)

Dave Holland and Derek Bailey, Improvisations for Cello and Guitar. As great as the ambient tones of this excellent duo come thru on vinyl, the static and dust on this old ECM really compete with Bailey's jabs. I need this to be on CD someday too. This is my favorite Bailey duo along with ORE (w/ Eddie Prevost).

TASTY PUDDING!

That cover always reminds me of Gerald Scarfe's illustration for Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'.

Currently spinning:

'Bob Brookmeyer and Friends' (CBS 2-eye stereo)

Roland Kirk 'Domino' (UK Mercury stereo)

Blue Mitchell 'A Sure Thing' (Riverside black label deep groove)

Movin' In with Sahib Shihab and Specs Powell - a German Vogue pressing of a Roulette session. Large combo with lots of sweet trumpet from Ray Copeland and liner notes by none less than Dizzy Gillespie. The music is between swing and bop, good solos all around. Must be rare - I never saw that mentioned anywhere.
