Okay, some of you ARE at home listening, some of you are lucky to work at home in any capacity and listen . . . .

I'm lucky to be able to listen at low volumes at work the ten hours or so I'm here a day, or else I'd go nuts. But I've been so happy with my stereo system lately that I honestly wish I could play hookey and stay home and listen; I sure wish I were at home listening to my stereo right now. I can't wait for tomorrow morning's listening. . . I live for my solid listening sessions on the weekend.

It sure is expensive, being a music lover, but the rewards are a good compensation!

Hmmmm. . .that would be annoying. Luckily for the last decade or so I can sleep my six or seven hours. . . and that's it. I wake up on my own after that amount of time or by my little helper cat and . . . that's it, I can't go back to sleep so I get up and start the day. Get some good early morning listening in that way!

After today, Friday, I'm home for a three-day weekend. I'm looking forward to enjoying some good listening time. :)

I should have ordered a new Mosaic, to be delivered today, but didn't.

It's always interesting, to me, how certain music affects people in certain ways. I'm with jazzbo, when I'm listening to jazz, the music makes the world seem 'okay.' If I spend too many days away from the music, I feel a 'need' to let the music wash over me. To right the wrongs of the world, and to set my thoughts straight.

I've been off for the past 8 days and won't return to work until Monday. I've been completing some long over due projects such as painting two bedrooms, my music room and a bathroom, all the while listening to jazz. I have been playing the many Beehive sessions that Jim Neumann made in the 70's/80's, wonderful stuff!!! :g I also picked up the new RVGs and have been giving them a listen. I am lucky enough to be able to listen to music during the hours I'm at work but it's not the same with the phone ringing off the hook and the frequent visits from pesky co-workers!

I like to torture myself and not listen to jazz (or any music) while at work. That way, when I get home, its all the more sweeter.

There are times of course, both at home and at work, when I don't listen to music for longish periods of time.

It takes a big toll on me! I'm much happier when I can hear it, even in the faintest background!

Like jazzbo, I have music going pretty much all day long at the office. I do enjoy getting the much richer sound at home. There are so many nuances that only come out on a nice system.

I don't know if I could make it all day at work without being able to have something playing in the background. It's also nice to be able to play the stuff I order online right away as I have everything delivered to the office. I think the excitement of a new batch of RVGs or a Mosaic order coming in would be too much to handle if I had to wait until the evening to listen.

:tup:tup Amen, Wesbed!

I'm usually able to listen to 2 or if I'm lucky 3 Cd's a day at work. Depends on how busy it is. On a Friday PM, no problem. Sometimes I'm able to close my door and listen with headphones. That's what I like! I also do my best work that way.

Every now & then, I’ll put on a CD at work that’ll allow me to ride the groove all day. A good example of this is some of the Mobley 50’s stuff w/Sonny Clark. Some days, a groove like that will make the day go by that much quicker.

Probably my most preferred way of listening is to listen thru headphones while taking a walk or riding my bike. That way, I can hear all the nuances & details of the music.

At home, the only way I can listen uninterrupted is if I have the house to myself, which isn’t often. But every so often, I’ll get that chance, and put something on that I can hear throughout the house. I can’t just sit still and listen. I gotta be doin’ something!

Starting tomorrow I am going on a road trip for two weeks. Exotic places like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Toledo, Chicago, then up to Rochester Minnesota! On the way back I will take a different route, to see the country. And I have packed up a ton of cdr mixes of some faves that I haven't listened to in a while-- John Patton, Larry Young Mosaic, Joe Henderson Live at the Lighthouse, Art Blakey , etc. etc. I am REALLY looking forward to crusing the country with this running in the background.

I'm listening to Ready for Freddie as I type these words. Sometimes the sounds of McCoy Tyner's piano can put me into a comfortable, very relaxed, psuedo-trance-like state. It's quite nice, really.

Although I've gotten roped into a lot of "honey do" things today I have gotten some good listening in. . . . I feel almost recharged after a very wearying (not just physically!) work week.

I don't do a lot of walking with headphones for two reasons: one: around here they just don't respect pedestrians and when I walk I need to have my attention on staying unstruck; two: I really overdosed on headphones in my amateur recording of bands I was in and friends' bands days. . . hours and hours spent with headphones on remixing the same songs over and over. . . soured me to the "in your head" experience!

Right now I have the new RVG of "Sixth Sense" going. . . damn it sounds good!

I AM home. I wish I was able to sleep more than an hour or so without having to get up to urinate and then not be able to get back to sleep.

Take care of yourself, Jim! If this is not just a contemporary phenonenon, you should try to reduce diuretic beverages (e.g. coffee, beer) and/or avoid/reduce drinking in the evening hours, but if that hasn't any effect, go see a doctor. Not being able to sleep through the night will cause considerable stress after short time.

I've listened to The Sixth Sense only in my car so far. I haven't thought the title was too good. Just now I placed the CD in my home stereo and it's a much better session than I previously believed. I'll agree with jazzbo and say, yeah, it's good.

'Cry For My People' is a delight. Lee Morgan and Cal Massey make for a good combination.

Since I've neither a home nor an office, this thread leaves me both troubled and fascinated. I may go four months without hearing a lick of jazz. The, miraculously, my recorded music collection (in a storage locker) and I are reunited for six hours. I suppose it's like being away from one's wife; hopefully, the mood will be right.

Fortunately, my typical time away is more often four weeks than four months. But the reunions are short. And frustrating.

Thank goodness for the occasional jazz station (in the States or Europe) or a half-decent shortwave broadcast.
