Rooster_Ties Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Neither have I. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've never even heard of Wade Legge either, come to think of it. What's the scoop?? Quote
Dmitry Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 In fact, I'm pretty sure I've never even heard of Wade Legge either, come to think of it. He was a pianist of choice for both Mingus and Sonny Rollins in the mid to late 50s. Surprised you haven't heard of him. Quote
Out2Lunch Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Even though he's only got two albums under his name, his credentials recording with Miles, Diz and Mingus are quite impressive. Quote
jlhoots Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I believe he also recorded with Donald Byrd / Gigi Gryce. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 If you stand in water, you got two of 'em. Before anyone asks, BN licensed the 10" lp from Vogue and can't reissue it. Quote
Late Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 (edited) The album pictured above is available on compact disc ... in its Vogue incarnation. Here's a link. Haven't heard the music myself, but have heard Legge with others (Mingus, Roach), and would imagine there's some fine playing on that expensive little platter. Note: Our old colleague from the BNBB, Al "Joe Christmas" Jones is on drums here. Didn't know he was that old, though. Edited June 2, 2003 by Late Quote
brownie Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Wade Legge was the pianist with the 1953 Dizzy Gillespie group. That's when he recorded this Vogue 10incher that was released by BN in the States. He is also the pianist on the 'Sonny Rollins Plays for Bird' Prestige album with Kenny Dorham. Quote
Harmon Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 WL also plays on: Lenny Hambro: Message from Hambro JR Monterose: Jaywalkin'. Both are on recommended CD's. JÜrgen Quote
