Does anyone here have any thoughts on Freddie Hubbard - "The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard". I initially dismissed this title upon seeing it thinking it was a compilation disc but then discovered it was a stand alone release sandwiched between "Ready For Freddie" and "Hub-Tones" both of which I enjoy quite a bit. The sound samples still leave me sitting a bit on the fence. Is the disc more compelling than the sound samples might lead me to believe?

It's a good one and I'm a big Hubbard fan. Get it!

Just got my first shipment from Yourmusic.com. The Joe Lovano / Hank Jones CD, "Joyous Encounter" lives up to its name and from what I've heard, the Steve Kuhn Trio "Live at Birdland" is going to be a good listen.

Afraid I can't recommend the third disk in the shipment, "Its Me" by Abbey Lincoln. The opening track, "Skylark" is magnificent, but the rest of the set disappoints. At age 73, I'm sorry to say that Ms. Lincoln's voice just wasn't up to the task. A lot of this has to do with the song selection and the arrangements, which don't do her any favors. If you download, get "Skylark" from Amazon.com or iTunes, but skip the rest. Instead, I would suggest exploring Ms. Lincoln's most recent album, "Abbey Sings Abbey." The arrangements are better suited to her voice at this stage and the song selection is first rate.

Jon Hassell - Last Night The Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes In The Street

Glad this one showed up on yourmusic!

Also - the codes "599cds" appears to give you $5.99 cds (i.e. a dollar off). I think it's only good until tomorrow, but not sure.

Nice to see them playing around with codes at least.

If you don't have little kids- you won't understand....well actually I didn't understand them when I took my 5 year old to see them.

I loved telling people at the Wiggles show that the last Australian band I saw before the Wiggles was AC/DC.......Highway to Hell Tour.....I got some looks....

Arve Henriksen - Cartography

Seeing this reminded me that it had been a long time since I had heard it. So I pulled it out this evening and listened to it.

It's different. It's soothing. It doesn't swing. It's not jazz IMHO. For me, it's good to have in the background as I'm getting ready for bed. It's not something to sit by and listen to.

For six bucks I would say that it would be worth it to get something unique for your collection. But probably half the people here wouldn't like it.

PS - You can hear it and judge for yourself:
