Free For All Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Homemade pizza- sauce, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, black olives, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, fresh mozzerella (mixed of regular and smoked). Man, the kitchen smells good! And a tossed salad. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Just out of the oven: Chicken and black olive pizza with pine nuts and fresh basil. Homemade crust. I need a good recipe for homemade pizza sauce, though. My sauce is okay, but not fantastic. Quote

fasstrack Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) Having what I (at least in my addled head) amusingly call 'bacheloritis', I make pretty much what I damn please. And since dinner is usually for one the good news is that I have only to please a guy kown as me *** So tonight I made a concoction that went down mighty easy: dill, garlic, bananas, apples, grape tomatoes in an improvised sauce of off-the-shelf peanut sauce, Dannon lemon yogurt (most of which was in fact saved for dessert), and the parmesan cheese that came with the Near East couscous I served it over. In a paper plate, naturally. ***Note to those who may think "aw, what a 'loney guy'", don't waste your time. I'm just busy and most of the women I meet are either 'jazz floozies' (not interested whatever), too young, or not what I call "oak trees" (self-explanatory in my mind, but if you don't get it, fair enough: I mean someone solid, capable of providing comfort, support, shade etc.). Free For All Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I have a great recipe for meatloaf- it's in the oven and smelling great. W/baked potato & steamed asparagus. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Do you wrap it in bacon? I saw that on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Meatloaf wrapped in bacon. I tried it and it was pretty damn good, although it took much longer to cook than normal. Quote
Free For All Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 No bacon, but that does sound good. Of course, what wouldn't be good wrapped in bacon? I don't cook it in a meatloaf pan anymore, just on a cookie sheet on parchment paper. Comes out much better that way IMO. I love DD&D, BTW. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 That show is show dangerous. I watch it late at night and I get soooooo frickin' hungry. Some of those joints are just out of sight. Quote

Some of those joints are just out of sight. Did you see the one where he went to the burger place (The Squeeze Inn) in Sacramento? The burgers have a huge "cheese skirt" that hangs over the sides onto the plate. I was out there last summer and made a special trip to check it out. No, not healthy food by any means, but very tasty. Edited February 12, 2009 by Free For All Quote

Brownian Motion Posted February 17, 2009 Author Report Posted February 17, 2009 I've been cranking up the old bread machine lately--lots of focaccia, French bread, raisin walnut rolls, and one pizza. Like Jim I'd like a first-rate pizza sauce recipe. Quote
Free For All Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) When I have the time to make the sauce from scratch I like this recipe. It's basic, simple and fast. Tweak as desired (for example, some might want less sugar- I like it with a little sweetness and heat). PIZZA SAUCE * 3 garlic cloves, minced * 3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil * 1 (29 ounce) can tomato puree * 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes * 2 tablespoons brown sugar * 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning * 1 teaspoon dried basil * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Brown garlic in olive oil. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for awhile. I expect catesta has a recipe that will totally trump this one.......... Free For All Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) Tonight, my mom's potato & corn chowder, with some extra stuff. I cook a couple pieces of chopped bacon in the pot and then saute onions & garlic, then the potatoes go in with some chicken stock. Later I add the corn, and also asparagus, fresh shrimp, scallops, clams and some Old Bay and other seasonings (definitely some hot sauce). And some milk, of course. Served with some crusty kalamata olive bread. Yum! Thanks mom! Your son misses you! Edited February 28, 2009 by Free For All Quote
Free For All Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Slow cooked a beef roast overnight in broth, onion soup mix & seasonings, then chopped it up and put it back in the slow cooker w/some BBQ sauce. It's smelling mighty good! Will eat it on a bun w/sour pickles. Quote
