Guest che Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Ok Brothers and Sisters. I am from the UK, well England really so which is the best ever English Band? Would this be the Beatles ( no in my view), the Jam ( getting hotter) or Oasis (Mmm) or maybe the Levelers (doub't you guys have any idea who they are ) Let me know you thoughts? Che. Quote
Guest che Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 The Beatles. Well I never got the Beatles, much more preferred the Rolling Stones, so why the Beatles? By the way both would not be my personal top choice! Che. Quote

Well the Stones I got, well at least I thought I did! As for John, Paul etc I am sorry but they never did that much for me! Che. Quote
sal Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Another vote for the Beatles. They are one of the very few rock groups that I've listened to whose music gives me a feeling that is similar to the one I get from jazz. Quote
brownie Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 The Rolling Stones when Mick Taylor was with them! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Beatles hand down. They made the 60's, music, clothing, politics, everything. Quote
maren Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 I can never choose "best" in these kinds of polls! I was 11 when I saw the Beatles "standing there" on the Ed Sullivan show, heart went boom, and I loved them for the next 8 years... Stones I liked earlier much better than later. But then there's The Kinks! The Who! The Fall! The Clash! The Buzzcocks! Gang of Four! Sex Pistols! Yardbirds! Eric Burdon and the Animals! Cream! Throbbing Gristle! Henry Cow! Young Marble Giants! Linton Kwesi Johnson/Dennis Bovell! X-Ray Spex! PIL! Bow Wow Wow! (the two British invasions of my youth, I guess) Quote

The Clash, The Fall etc are all interesting. If I had to choose one then it would be The Smiths A band the had great musical talent, and who's lyrics resonated so much with the times Just an opinion, but for me me number 1. Any thoughts? Che. Guest che Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Beatles hand down. They made the 60's, music, clothing, politics, everything. Rather than just name a band, I would be really intereasted in why you have chosen the bands that you have? Che. Quote
GA Russell Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Among the British Invasion bands, I go for Manfred Mann. They had a strong jazz influence, as well as Chicago blues, and they had the talent to play rockin' solos. Don't be fooled by Do Wah Diddy Diddy. For a little later, I go for The Soft Machine. They evolved dramtically over the years. Again, they had the talent to solo and extemporize. Quote
Joe Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Either Lonnie Donegan and His Skiffle Group or The Fall. Quote
Brandon Burke Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Either Lonnie Donegan and His Skiffle Group or The Fall. The Fall finished a very close second. B-) Quote
Sundog Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 My first impression is to say the Beatles. However I listen to the following bands on a much more regular basis. My top 5 roughly in order from most frequently played to least frequently played.... 1) The Kinks 2) Peter Green Era Fleetwood Mac 3) Elvis Costello & The Attractions 4) The Clash 5) XTC Quote
