Hardbopjazz Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 (edited) Sessions seem to go in and out of print so fast, got me wondering what artist has the most available sessions. Any thoughts? Edited April 21, 2005 by Hardbopjazz Quote
GA Russell Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 My first thought was Miles Davis. Ellington occurred to me, as does Louis Armstrong, but I'd still bet Miles. Quote
alankin Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 An unscientific name search at CD Universe shows: Duke Ellington (416) Louis Armstrong (411) Miles Davis (398) Charlie Parker (226) Quote
Sundog Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 An unscientific name search at CD Universe shows: Duke Ellington (416) Louis Armstrong (411) Miles Davis (398) Charlie Parker (226) I thought Bill Evans would be up there but he "only" clocks in at 209. Quote
RDK Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 David Murray My thought exactly! (And certainly the winner by yearly percentage) Quote
JSngry Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Where do Lee Konitz, Sonny Stitt, & Anthony Braxton rate in all this? The stats from CDU are probably seriously skewed by all the P.D./grey-market/greatest hits/best of repackagings of some of the same materials. I gurandamntee you that if you order all 416 Ellinton items that you're going to have a helluva lot of duplications of material! Quote
Jazz Kat Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Miles and Coltrane. At J&R, they're cd's were seperated by album. Quote

Yeah, Lacy would fir with those three, for sure. But how much of his work is unavailable relative to how much id? Quote
