clifford_thornton Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Legendary trumpeter, composer and scene-maker Bill Dixon turns 80 today. Please wish him a happy birthday here! Quote
sidewinder Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Indeed, many happy returns of the day to Mr Dixon . I'll dig out my Savoy LP a bit later tonight. Hope he makes a return trip to play the UK again soon, having missed it the last time. Quote
brownie Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 80? Probably getting some respect at that age! Hope he will have even more reasons to celebrate! Quote
ep1str0phy Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Cheers! Wouldn't be here without him. Quote
paul secor Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Happy birthday, Mr. Dixon! Thanks for all of the music - hope there's much more to come. Quote
JSngry Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Much love and respect from here. Best wishes! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 (edited) Artistic repect from me. Personal respect is zero. He screwed me for about $400 bucks back in the '70s when we were both in Madison, and I think he's a great artist and personal creep. Edited October 6, 2005 by Chuck Nessa Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Harumph. I guess now you're even Chuck. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted October 6, 2005 Author Report Posted October 6, 2005 Umm... back to the original post, ahem. I still have yet to undertake the task of transcribing a five-hour interview from August... he certainly called me to task in the process, and for that I respect him. As mercurial as he might be, I can't say he isn't one of the most interesting conversationalists and true intellectuals of this music that I've met. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 He still owes me money from over 25 years ago. Fine artist, less than fine human. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Happy 84th Bill. Love the advertisement! Quote
AndrewHill Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 He still owes me money from over 25 years ago. Fine artist, less than fine human. Can I ask why he owes you $400? Was it an advance or something like that? BTW, happy birthday Bill Dixon Quote
