bertrand Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I googled Hank Mobley (sounds vaguely obscene) and found several articles that claim that Soul Station did not come out until 1987. I find this hard to believe, considering it contains his most famous tune 'This I Dig Of You', which is in many fake books. What is the correct release date? Thanks, Bertrand. Quote
Jim R Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I would have thought 1960. Maybe the 1987 date is referring to "Another Workout"? Quote
brownie Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Can't say when precisely but 'Soul Station' was released on schedule after its 1960 recording date. The 1987 date probably refers to one of the several rereleases of the album. Quote
J.A.W. Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Do you mean the LP or the CD? As far as I know the LP was released in 1960, the CD not until 1987. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 The original vinyl is a 47W63rd deep groove both sides so it must have come out on or around the 1960 date. As mentoned, I suspect that the 1987 date may refer to first release of 'Another Workout'. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I have a Schwann catalogue from 1967 which gives the release date as October 1960. MG Quote
bertrand Posted November 16, 2005 Author Report Posted November 16, 2005 (edited) These articles refer to the first ever release. Confusion with Another Workout is probably the correct answer. Another example of a mistake being perpetuated through slopiness. Good move keeping those Schwann catalogs! Bertrand. Edited November 16, 2005 by bertrand Quote
