jazzbo Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Plenty o' drums and drummers! Looks good. Thanks for the headsup. Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I like Cassandra quite a bit, but everything since NEW MOON DAUGHTER has been pretty uneven IMO. At least, I don't find myself returning to the later CDs, unlike her early 1990s work. Still, I look forward to anything new from her. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Hmmm. . . that's funny because I like the newer stuff MORE. But that's me! Quote
Alexander Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 (edited) I always like her stuff, although I must say that I've listened to "Belly of the Sun" more than "Glamoured." Looking forward to this. Edited February 2, 2006 by Alexander Quote
jlhoots Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 I really like the keyboard players name. Hope he's good. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 Yes, "Belly of the Sun" is her best imo. Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Looking forward to it. thanks. Quote
Shawn Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Nothing wrong with having Marc Ribot & Jim Keltner on board either.... Belly Of The Sun is my favorite as well. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 ThunderBird digital player here. that lead off and a few others have a MMW groove (esp on the bottom) going on or what? sounds like she might be trying to capture that "Americana" demographic more and more with the balance of this one. i guess all that M-base experimentation and jazz is long gone now. RonF Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 sounds like she might be trying to capture that "Americana" demographic more and more with the balance of this one. That's my take too. They targeted the Triple A/Americana radio markets a few weeks before jazz. Still, I like her and always look forward to her new work. Quote
WD45 Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 This one was a little to Sting-afied for mine ears. The production will sound dated in 5 years on some cuts, I am afraid. There is a better way to go about it than this. Cassandra's voice is honey, as always. Quote

Alexander Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 (edited) Yes, Cassandra's voice redeems all on this album. I agree that the production on some of the tracks is going to sound dated in a few years. Pity. I was thinking that with Burnett the sound would be more "roots-y." Something more like Costello's "The Delivery Man." Edited April 11, 2006 by Alexander Quote
relyles Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 I listened to a little more than half the disc on Rhapsody the other day while working on the computer. I have been a big fan of Cassandra Wilson since her M-Base days, but what I heard of this recording was a little disappointing. I am not sure I can completely buy into the new direction she seems to be taking with this recording. Nonetheless, I will reserve my final opinion until I have had an opportunity to listen to the recording more closely in its entirety. Quote
