Stereojack
Thanks for the answers, Stefan. I was so sure I had #3, and I'm surprised about #7, a musician I usually like. That's what so great about these BFT's. We get a chance to reevaluate musicians we take for granted, and to have our eyes (ears) opened about musicians we may have ignored or taken lightly in the past. mikeweil
11 - Fun Time - Paul Horn (Profile of a Jazz Musician - Columbia) Emil Richards - vibes, Paul Moer - p, Victor Gaskin - b, Milt Turner - d So this was Emil Richards' tune, after all ..... the Columbia Paul Horn sides are high on my reissue wish list. Mosaic Select or singles?
mikeweil
Stefan, is it asking too much that you add recording dates or years, at least? Thanks!
Chas
So this was Emil Richards' tune, after all ..... the Columbia Paul Horn sides are high on my reissue wish list. Mosaic Select or singles? The two Columbia Horn lps are available from Collectables : The sound quality is decent , though not as outstanding as other Columbias ; these may have been recorded in Los Angeles instead of New York . I think anyone who enjoys the Something Blue OJC would want to own this 2-CD set . Both Emil Richards and Paul Moer are under-appreciated I think . Stefan Wood
I had the original pressing, which I used in the test. This is a smoking session all the way!
Alexander Hawkins
Muhal's playing has this headlong urgency on the track which I've only really ever heard from Bud Powell. Idiomatic bop/hard bop, but with an almost frightening intensity, and a fabulous left hand.
