"George Clinton Presents the P-Funk All-Stars' How Late Do U Have 2BB4UR Absent?"

I haven't heard it yet, myself. Have you? This recent Village Voice article makes it sound tempting:

Two Tickets to Paradigm: Dr. Funkenstein's Hop on Pop

George Clinton Presents the P-Funk All-Stars

How Late Do U Have 2BB4UR Absent?

George Clinton gets written off as a has-been and crackhead, so of course he had to roar back with a double CD that ranks among the best albums of his career. Some tracks rock as hard as "Alice in My Fantasies," some are bubblegum funk with truly weird lyrics. There's a nine-minute medley of '50s songs (with Bobby Womack!) where George rasps, "Let's go to the motherfuckin' hop." There's a song where they scream, "They've got you by the malls!" and another (with Prince!) where George asks, "Hey, buddy, can you paradigm?"

There's freakfolk and beatlebounce and the heretofore unknown genre reggaetonk, and three awesome new slow dances—always important, because without them the human race will die out. But maybe we deserve our extinction, because almost everyone has ignored this album. Some critics have ADHD, but I can't think of a song I'd cut. And damn it, if anyone has earned a 150-minute comeback album, it's George Motherfucking Clinton.

Also, Robert Christgau gave it a qualified thumbs up in his latest VV Consumer Guide.

Listened to it last night. It's a keeper.

Just don't expect Flashlight Revisited or anything like that. This is an album that combines the trashed out vocals of Rio-era Sly with the production finesse of Prince's very best work with the stylistic scope of The White Album. There's a healthy dose of both street talk and Clinton's patented surrealistic social observations thrown in for good measure, sometimes sepeately sometimes together). The ingredients are all familiar, but the combinations of them are sometimes startling. And what he does to "Goodnight Sweetheart" is nothing short of warped genius.

Like I said, it's a keeper.

Just based on the lyric "hey buddy, can you paradigm?" I'd say the man's still got it.

I'm definitely going to get this, despite my informal personal record-buying moratorium. (And maybe sneak in the new Andrew Hill while I'm at it...)

Yeah, that's one of the highlights, as is the aforementioned "Let's go to the motherfuckin' hop" , albeit in a totally different way. Just the delivery...And there's a thing called "Viagra" that is in no way about what you think it's going to be about...

Yeah, the man's still got it. If anything, he's got more of it now than he ever did. He's old, his voice is half-wasted, and he's gotten even more unabashedly hedonistic, which makes for some rather, uh, "raw" lyrics here and there. But oh well!

I think that George Clinton should take Jerry Springer's place, that's what I think. :g That cut cracked me up.

Disc II is every bit as good as Disc I, although it's a lot more varied in terms of style. There's a rap ode to herb featuring his grandaughter Sativa that got on my nerves at first, but it grew on me. A little. But that's the only "problem" I had with it.

And btw - there's a "bonus cut" at the end (also featuring Sativa) that is freakin' hilarious. Think of it as the 21st century cousin of "Take Your Dead Ass Home"
