Rooster_Ties Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 (edited) OK, I'm deeply ashamed to admit this - - but I'm one of those horrible people who hasn't bought their copy of "Waiting For The Boogaloo Sisters" yet. I have no good excuse, other than I just hadn't gotten around to it yet. Yeah, yea, I'm pinchin' pennies, but who isn't?? - and it's not like I've stopped eating out, so I must not be pinchin' them that hard. So, then, I pull up the CDBaby website, go to the Organissimo CD, and there's this cute little box saying that there's a 10% discount for purchases of multiple copies of this CD. SO, is there anybody in the Kansas City area who wants to get this great CD for a couple bucks cheaper than if you ordered it all by yourself, direct from CDBaby?? All we gotta do is get one person (besides myself) to go in on the deal, and we save $0.50 each on shipping costs, plus save 10% on the CD. Any more than 2 people, and the shipping costs go down even more. (And if we get a total of 6 people, then there's NO shipping costs!!!) United States: Your Postage Costs (from CDBaby) 1 CD $2.25 2 CDs $3.50 ($1.75 per CD) 3 CDs $4.00 ($1.33 per CD) 4 CDs $4.50 ($1.13 per CD) 5 CDs $4.50 ($0.90 per CD) 6 CDs $0.00 ($0 per CD!!!) 7 CDs $0.00 8 CDs $0.00 9 CDs $0.00 10 CDs $0.00 I'll be glad to do the ordering, and I'll even personally drive the CD right to your front door (anywhere within 20 or 30 miles of the Midtown K.C. area). Be a good chance to say 'hi', and chat a bit too. Or maybe we can meet at a local show/club sometime, and I can drop it off then. So, who's in???? (B3-er --- do you know if this 10% discount comes out of your pocket, or CDBaby's??? Either way, if I can get 2 or 3 more people to go in on this with me - I think it's still probably OK, cuz everybody comes out ahead -- since I'm figuring a couple of those sales might notta ever happened otherwise. Or should I be shot for even starting this thread in the first place??? ) Edited July 28, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 The shipping is the responsability of CDBaby. We get a set rate regardless of what they charge for shipping. So, order away! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 28, 2003 Author Report Posted July 28, 2003 The shipping is the responsability of CDBaby. We get a set rate regardless of what they charge for shipping. So, order away! I realize the shipping is their deal, but they're actually charging less for the CD itself - if multiple copies are ordered at the same time. Normally they charge $13.99 for your disc. But if I buy two or more, then the price comes down to $12.59 per CD ($1.40 less than the regular price). Does that $1.40 come out of your pocket?? Or CDBaby's??? (And this price difference is before any shipping costs are figured into the deal.) ( But like I said - either way, I think could generate a couple sales that wouldn't have necessarily happened otherwise, so I'm still gonna be able to sleep at night, otherwise unhaunted by these particular demons. ) Quote
Free For All Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Eric, are you out there? You're a KC person, right? You want in on this? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I think we get the same money either way. We'll be RICH!!!! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 28, 2003 Author Report Posted July 28, 2003 UP - for anybody else from Kansas City!!! -- Rooster T. Quote
Eric Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 (edited) Hey Rooster, Sorry, wish I could join you, but I snagged this a couple of months ago You are still welcome to come over for a beer and some tunes though! Eric Edited July 28, 2003 by Eric Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 28, 2003 Author Report Posted July 28, 2003 Thanks Eric. You're right - we should get together sometime, you know. If nothing else - Greg Tardy is going to be at The Blue Room on Saturday, August 9th - only a $10 cover. I heard Tardy at the Iowa City Jazz Festival earlier this month, fronting Andrew Hill's quartet. Man, Tardy was a monster - so I'm gonna try like heck to catch him here, playing his own stuff. ANYBODY ELSE FROM KANSAS CITY NOT HAVE THEIR OWN ORGANISSIMO CD YET????? Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I just want to say that this is an excellent cd and worth the price. No one needs to hesitate to pick it up. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 28, 2003 Author Report Posted July 28, 2003 Just bumping this 'up' for anyone else from Kansas City... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 29, 2003 Author Report Posted July 29, 2003 Oh and might I add that I just how you can get really crazy deals going on this board. 'couw' is eluding to the fact that he's in Germany, and I'm gonna buy the Organissimo disc for him (along with the other Kansas City folks), along with three Conns that are OOP (but still easy to find in the U.S.) - and send them to him all at one time, plus who knows what else. And then he's gonna buy some stuff for me from the Ensemble Modern site (the kick-ass chamber orchestra from Frankfurt, that specializes in 20th Century composers), plus throw in some CDR's for me, and who knows what else. I've long wanted some stuff from the EM site (particularly their recording of Charles Ives' 4th Symphony), but I've never wanted to deal with the currency issues enough to try to buy from them directly, and their site (at least the last time I looked) never made purchasing from the U.S. very easy. Anyway, yes - this is a rather crazy deal. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 I'm diggin' it! I think we've sold few copies so far to Deutschland. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2003 Author Report Posted July 30, 2003 Just bumping this up again for any other Kansas City folk. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 By the way, if anyone does order the disc (hint hint) the webpage currently says "Out Of Stock". CDBaby sold the last copy today and I sent them more copies yesterday, so all should be right with the world by tomorrow afternoon. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2003 Author Report Posted July 30, 2003 This deal is up to 4 CD's total, so far. So, I only need two more CD's to sell to people in Kansas City area -- or through one of these bizzaar international two-way and/or three-way trades ( ), and we can get free shipping - at least for the part from CDBaby to Kansas City. And I may just go ahead and order the other two (for a total of six, for free shipping), with the expectation that I can somehow find happy homes for them sometime in the future. Who knows, we may pick up some other Kansas City people in the future - and that way they could buy the disc, brand new, for only $12.59, with no tax and no shipping charges. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted July 30, 2003 Author Report Posted July 30, 2003 Hey b3-er!! - if I end up buying 6 of your CD's, for people in Kansas City and the far reaches of the world (and becoming essentially my own mini-distributorship), does that absolve me of all guilt for having waited this long to buy your disc in the first place?? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 I think the minimum for the ablution of sin, according to the gospel, is 10 discs. Sorry. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Hey Rooster, you gonna order within this month? I'm just asking because CDBaby will put the 100 top sellers for the month of August on a compilation disc that will be sent out free with all orders until they run out of the intial pressing of 5,000! Your multi-order will be a big help! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 7, 2003 Author Report Posted August 7, 2003 (edited) Well, now that all depends on whether we can we negotiate down that minimum number of discs I need to buy, in order to be absolved. I think the minimum for the ablution of sin, according to the gospel, is 10 discs. Sorry. Edited August 7, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 I consulted the diocese and they agreed that four to six CDs plus two Hail Mary's would be adequate. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 7, 2003 Author Report Posted August 7, 2003 Yeah, I plan to order 6!! (cuz 6 is what'll get me free shipping from CDBaby), and I'll place the order within the next 7-10 days, or at least definitely sometime in August. Hey, you ought to start up a new thread specifically pushing people to order their Organissimo CD's during the month of August, if they were already thinking about it anyway. Let's get everyone who hasn't ordered yet to do so in August, to get you up there on the CDBaby sales chart, and on that promo comp-CD. And, maybe a carefully worded sales pitch on AAJ, maybe from somebody here who also posts there quite a bit, might also be in order. The key is to get somebody who's already relatively well respected on the AAJ board, to post the pitch - rather than an infrequent poster (like any of the guys in the band, or Use3D). That would reduce the perception of the pitch as "just being spam". Having a thread title like "shameless promotion alert", or something self-deprecating, always seems to help those things get noticed in a "less bad' sort of way. Who here is a frequent poster on AAJ?? I post there some (sometimes less, sometimes more), but I think there are others here who also post there more than I do. Just some ideas... Quote
Flam-man Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Hey Guys, FYI I was hangin' with Joel (Spyro Gyra) today, before their gig in Monroe ( they were excellent as usual) and he mentioned to me that he and Julio really liked the CD Joe laid on him at the Pontiac gig. He said most of the time stuff people give them to listen to is boring but they listened to your entire CD on their drive up north from that gig! They dug it. I know it would have been better comming directly from them but, I didnt say a word to him about it. He brought it up. Just thought you might like to know. keep on groovin' FM Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 That's very nice! We haven't heard from anyone "established" that we've given the CD too (musician-wise) so that's good to know! Quote
