Ken Dryden Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 That depends upon the condition. When it was still in print, it could be had for $240 plus shipping from Mosaic. I've seen them go on ebay from around $200-$900, though condition varied. Most sets for sale will likely have some minor shelf wear on the bottom of the box, while any other wear might lower the price. Mosaic set out to sell 10,000 of them, but I have no idea how many were manufactured and sold prior to the 3 year time limit imposed on their licensing agreement. My esitmate would be a minimum of $600-700 plus shipping and insurance if you can find one, though call Fred Cohen at Jazz Record Center in New York to see what he's charging for one, if he has it. I treasure my review copy! Quote
David Ayers Posted June 8, 2006 Author Report Posted June 8, 2006 Thanks Ken, that is helpful. I've got my eye on one at that sort of price and I am debating the pros and cons. Much obliged! Quote
andybleaden Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Hmm.....I would try to make sure you get to hear it first.....I had the chance to buy one and borrowed a friends and gave it a listen and decided against it in the end and bought the other mosaics that were lying around at the time. Have you heard it yet? Give me a shout if you want a UK angle on prices Andy Quote
sidewinder Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 (edited) Around $600 is the usual going rate on ebay. I have a vinyl copy - and it is a major exercise getting through the box and packaging to actually find and spin a particular LP ! Edited June 9, 2006 by sidewinder Quote
jazzbo Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 It's such a wonderful set! If you wait long enough though you're likely to be able to get it all in separate more recent Capitol cd submissions. . .seems they'll keep putting these out til they get to all this material. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 If one waits for ALL of the Nat King Cole Trio jazz recordings to be reissued individually, I bet it will be a long wait... Quote
jazzbo Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 We'll see. I have the Mosaic set, bought from Mosaic. But since that time I've seen a large number of sides released. I dare say it's debatable whether one needs to have ALL of these sides. There's plenty out now and there will be more. . . . Quote

tatifan Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 (edited) I had a funny experience with this set.......a friend had it, and I....cough...."xeroxed" it.........only to find it used for all of $80 a few months later! Needless to say, I snatched it up, despite having access to it!! For me, it's an essential set.....lots of goodies that probably won't be reissued. I kind of like the pre-computerized noise reduction sound too, it seems more honest, somehow. Edited June 27, 2006 by tatifan Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 Way too much of a decent thing for that kind of money. Endow a student soccer team instead. Quote
JSngry Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 I'd take Chuck's advice. The ladies seem to love well-endowed soccer players... Quote
Tjazz Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 only to find it used for all of $80 a few months later! $5/CD, sounds about right Quote
AllenLowe Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 for 20 bucks, I'll let you come over to my house and take a look at it - for another $20 you can look at my wife - Quote

Dmitry Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 I bought a sealed set for $260 a couple of years ago. It's still sealed ... my daughter's college fund! Quote
BERIGAN Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Find it hard to believe it wasn't mentioned here before(Too tired to check now) the the Bear Family is putting out the complete 1955-59 Capitol Nat King Cole, with one of their yummie books.... http://www.bear-family.de/tabel1/product/bcd16342_e.htm Quote
jazzbo Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Been mentioned here before, long thread about this from early on in its prerelease stage. Not much overlap with the Mosaic. Quote
