Rooster_Ties Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 (edited) I was gonna start this topic just as a joke (I swear)... But DAMN!! -- I just did a search, and there are OVER 1,000 SEPARATE "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" THREADS!!! -- here on this very board Over 20 pages worth (and the search engine only displays the first 1,000 results -- so who knows how many "Birthday" threads there really are??? ) So my intended joke has turned into a real suggestion -- can we get a new, separate "Happy Birthday" Forum??? (not kidding) ( ) Don't believe me?? Do a general search on the word "birthday" - and limit the results to "Search titles only". 1,000+ hits. Edited October 10, 2006 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Claude Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Can we have a "New forum requests" forum? Quote
JSngry Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 How many birthday threads should one look for in a reasonably well-tailored birthday suit? Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 What would be the benefit of having a forum for these threads? There will be the same number of threads either way. And searching for a specific one would involve the same effort, I'd think. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Why do you spend so much time looking for Birthday threads? How many threads are there with the word "Smith" in the title? How many beans make nine? MG Quote
JSngry Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck couldn't chuck wood but gave it his all anyway, bless his little heart? Quote
7/4 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 How many beans make nine? Wild guess: nine? How many angels fit on the head of a pin? Quote

Claude Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Seriously, some forums have a special "offtopic chat" subforum, where nonsense is being posted and discussed all day, as well as birthday wishes. Discussions that don't need to survive more than a month. The reason for putting them in a dedicated subforum is that the admin can configure that subforum in order that the threads are automatically deleted a month after the last post was made, whereas in the other ("serious") subforums the threads stay alive forever. That would IMHO be the only justification for a seperated birthday wishes subforum Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted October 10, 2006 Author Report Posted October 10, 2006 All I know is a day or two ago I saw something like 7 or 8 separate "Happy Birthday" threads, all on the front page of the "Today's Topics" search results. How long until the Birthday threads outnumber the non-Birthday threads?? -- Rooster (cranky old man in training, and get off my lawn!!) Quote

Daniel A Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 On a related note: it would be good if the search function could be made to work with multiple word searches, though. Quote
