Matthew Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) By next week, I'll have pretty much all of Coltrane's major studio output: All his Prestige music; the Alantic box set, and most of the Impulse! (I keep buying 2-3 cds a month). So, now where do I need to go? Is it mostly bootleg stuff from here on in? Is there still major label (or small for that matter) cds that I'm missing? Where do I go now? Edited October 24, 2006 by Matthew Quote
GA Russell Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I'm far from the Coltrane expert here, but my first thought is the Concord/Fantasy box of live recordings from European concerts. Quote

Hot Ptah Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Do you have the Bethlehem and Savoy studio recordings from the 1950s? Those are very worthwhile. Quote
J Larsen Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Another vote for the Euro concerts box. Quote
Eric Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I would suggest you first absorb what you have. Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I would suggest you first absorb what you have. That could keep him (or me, or anyone) busy for then next...oh....40 years. Quote
Ron S Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 FWIW, BMG currently has the Classic Quartet Complete Impulse Studio Recordings box set (8 CDs) for $36.39 with free shipping, here. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I would suggest you first absorb what you have. I sometimes feel that way about my minimal Trane LP collection... Quote
