Aggie87 Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 According to music tap, Herbie Hancock has a new album slated for release on Legacy on Feb 20th. It's called "Techno Voodu-Astral Black Simulations". Not sure what this is - isn't Legacy an archival label? Or do they release new material as well? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Sounds wonderful!! (or maybe dreadful ) Hard to tell which at this point. Can't wait to hear some on-line samples. Quote
mikeweil Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 (edited) Sounds more like a compilation - maybe including vault material? Legacy is indeed Columbia's reissue or vault issue label. Edited January 3, 2007 by mikeweil Quote
Spontooneous Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 The Sony Legacy Web site does an amazingly good job of keeping users in the dark about upcoming releases. Not a word about this one anywhere. Gee, maybe this is a remix project. Quote
Joe G Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 That's got to be the worst record title I've ever seen. Quote
Aggie87 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 For some reason I'm picturing a a sequel to "Future 2 Future". Seems like if it were a new recording, more information would already be floating around, though. Quote
Claude Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) Seems like if it were a new recording, more information would already be floating around, though. I agree. Normally new albums by such stars are announced 4-6 months in advance. Edited January 4, 2007 by Claude Quote
Guest youmustbe Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Since the Legacy staff has been fired, I guess they haven't been able to convince some kid in the downstairs Sony store to come up for a minute and update their webpage in exchange for a 5% discount on an mp3 player. Quote
Tom Storer Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 "Astral Black Simulations" sounds like a Steve Coleman title! But "Techno Voodu" gives me a very bad feeling. I think I'll sit this one out. Quote
Rosco Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I believe this may be one of Bill Laswell's 'reconstructions' (think Panthalassa)... not sure what era it's going to cover though. Laswell has spoken of doing projects covering the Mwandishi period and revisting the Future Shock era music. Quote

mikeweil Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Nothing on Herbie's website about this - but no 2007 tour dates either. They're all behind schedule with updates ..... Quote

Actually, if I was a betting man - that's what I'd put my money on it being. That would make the most sense, particularly with the wacky title. Edited January 4, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Rosco Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Up. Something made me think of this. Whatever became of it? Quote
mikeweil Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 (edited) No idea - no trace on Herbie's or the Legacy websites. Edited July 22, 2007 by mikeweil Quote
Daniel A Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Apparently it was mastered by Michael Fossenkemper of TurtleTone Studios. It's listed on their website: http://www.turtletonestudio.com/mike.html But no release so far. If ever. Quote
