J Larsen Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 It is really a widescreen, internet capable ipod with integrated phone. Details to follow. Quote
J Larsen Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 I'm going to wait for the media to put together a good article rather than going through all the features myself - suffice to say Apple has far, far exceeded my expectations both in terms of useful features and just flat-out cool features (like the fact that it automatically displays in widescreen if you hold it horizontally and in full screen if you hold it vertically - not to mention the new interface... wow!!!) J Larsen Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 Gets into some of it: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/the-apple-iphone/ Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Great. Is it going to be $600? Quote
J Larsen Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 $500 for an 4GB drive, $600 for an 8GB drive with a 2 yr contract. Pretty pricey gadget, but very, very cool looking, and not that bad price wise when compared to a small iPod, Blackberry and phone (I guess you can use your blackberry as a phone, but I don't like to). Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Ouch. That's crazy expensive just to listen to iTunes on your phone. Quote
J Larsen Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 It's really more if a handheld computer, but I agree it is pretty expensive. Quote
.:.impossible Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 This thing is cool. I just came across the engadget article by accident not 10 minutes ago. Definitely more than a phone. Blackberry will lose a chunk of its market, though this thing runs OSX if I'm not mistaken. Also introduced iTV. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I will be a high tech and business phone at first until the prices eventually drop. $600 is too steep. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 As I recall, it took two or three years for the iPod to catch on. Does anyone remember if price was a consideration then? With people willing to spend a thousand dollars for a big screen TV, I'm of the opinion that people will spend the money if they want the damn thing. Quote
J Larsen Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 I think I want the damn thing: http://www.apple.com/iphone/ Quote
Ron S Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I think I want the damn thing: http://www.apple.com/iphone/ Of course you do. You live in Manhattan. You expect to pay a lot to get a little. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Friggin' left wing geek device it is.... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 It's definitely cool looking, which is to be expected from Apple. Quote
porcy62 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 (edited) Damn, I had to buy a new Nokia phone six months ago. Well, doesn't matter I spared 530 bucks. And considering the medium life of today's technology I presume I will have to buy a new phone when the iPhone will reach a honest price Edited January 9, 2007 by porcy62 Quote
jlhoots Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Lawsuit - Cisco owns the iPhone name. Could be interesting. Quote
rostasi Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 iPhone iSux... - will not use the same OS X that you use on your laptop - so your apps won't run in it - only Apple will be making apps for the iPhone -- i.e. no 3rd party apps planned as of yet - doesn't have external storage capability - uses DRM as does the iPod - doesn't have GPS - locked to Cingular service in the US - costs way too much read: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/01/14/iphon..._roach_mot.html check out: http://openmoko.com/press/index.html Quote
Soulstation1 Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 anyone pick up an i-phone?? i bought 2 Quote
medjuck Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 We got a couple this week. Trying to get more for the rest of the office. I'm still learning to use mine but already find it better than my old Blacberry. Quote
J Larsen Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 I heard you couldn't access an exchange server with an iPhone. If that is true, then it is really an entirely different tool from a BlackBerry. Quote

MoGrubb Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Also, there's a rumor going around that certain external harddrives(Maxtor) are embedded with a trojan malware. The rumor also accuses the Chinese gov on gathering the info. Quote
