chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 OH LOOK HOW WELL YOU CAN PLAY DUMB. DUH! WHOS JOE HENDERSON? YOUR IGNORNACE JUST PROVES TO ME THAT I NEED TO PM ALL OF YOU INDIVIDUALLY SO I CAN GET THESE Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 i am refering specifically to the Joe and Trane tape Quote
JSngry Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 I've heard the Joe Brazil stuff. Believe me when I tell you that I've got a very high tolerance for low-quality bootleg sound. Also believe me when I tell you that this stuff is damn near unlistenable. It's one of those things that you think you want until you hear it. Trust me. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Agree with Sangrey on all points, re: the Joe Brazil thing with Joe and Trane. Much as I appreciated getting this from another board member quite some time ago, it really is just about THE most unlistenable thing I've ever personally heard, in my entire life --- and like Jim, I can normally tolerate bad "bootleg"-quality sound quite well. (This is about 500 times worse than the worst-sounding bootleg I've ever heard -- and that's probably putting it mildly.) Quote

[unknown Titles] unissued Billed as ÒThe Battle of Jazz,Ó tenor summit. The Michigan Chronicle: 19 March 1960. Sorry to hear that the sound is so bad on the Coltrane/Henderson recordings... has anyone heard the session quoted above? That is a pretty interesting/surprising lineup of tenors. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 no those other items are just gig listings, with no known recoding Quote
J Larsen Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Ohhhh.... that's what they mean by "no known recording" - got it. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 The Coltrane/Henderson session has apparently been on some sort of CD, since it came to my attention that this recently was on eBay: Quote
BruceH Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 (This is about 500 times worse than the worst-sounding bootleg I've ever heard -- and that's probably putting it mildly.) Wow. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 This was up on Dime not too long ago after someone did their best to improve the fidelity. I didn't download though since I'd already done what I could and it really doesn't help to put lipstick on a pig, but some people seemed pleased with the results. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Does Joe blow into the mouthpiece or out on these tapes? Quote
Stereojack Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 I've put up with some bad sound over the years, but I remember one Charlie Parker set on Philology on which the sound was so bad it wasn't even recognizeable as music! Quote
Swinging Swede Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Bird with Dizzy Gillespie's big band? I sampled a Stash CD that had that recording in a record shop in the 90s. I could hear a lot of noise and perhaps there were some faint hints of music somewhere behind it. I didn't buy it and I don't think bad sound has stopped me from buying any Bird otherwise. Yeah, those tracks was just as you say, if not worse! But there was some other material on there not that bad... Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 I am thinking of that SNL family kitchen sketch where mom, dad, and all the kids pass around the bottle of spoiled milk, each for a good whiff, just to make sure. Whoa!!! Quote
