League suspends Amare, Diaw, and Horry.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2007...tory?id=2871615

The Amare & Diaw suspensions are bullshit, especially considering, as Steve Kerr pointed out:

"In a play that went entirely unnoticed until well after the game was over, both Duncan and Bowen actually left San Antonio's bench early in the second quarter after Francisco Elson and James Jones were entangled. Replays clearly show Duncan walking several steps onto the court as Elson and Jones appeared to be ready to get into it. Bowen then followed Duncan onto the floor, grabbed him and led him back to the bench. If the league does indeed follow the letter of the law, both Spurs players would also be suspended for Game 5."

Add that to Bowen's "physical" play that the league hasn't even bothered to review... and if I was a Suns fan, I'd be pissed.

I think the Amare & Diaw suspensions are BS myself, and I"m a Spurs fan. I think Horry is deserving of a suspension, maybe. Or maybe not. His ejection (and a fine) might have been enough, for a hard foul. I don't have a problem with his suspension though.

Here's the comment on SI.com about the Duncan thing, from Stu Jackson, the NBA's guy that deals with the suspensions and stuff:

Jackson brushed aside a suggestion that Tim Duncan violated the rule in the second quarter when he rushed onto the court after Francisco Elson dunked and landed on the shoulders of the Suns' James Jones.

"Both players got up," Jackson said. "There was no altercation, and they ran down to the other end of the court."

Pistons thought they could just show up, and the Bulls shot 72% in one half. Weird game.

As for the W's, they looked really tired, they got too emotional and careless, they didn't deserve to win, and Utah was better in this series. AND... that Bennett Salvatore crew really sucks. :tdown

Derek Fisher played out of his mind... but I still wouldn't want him back.

Haven't been following any of the series since my Mavs disgraceful exit, but I'm still sad the W's are out now. I was really hoping they would face the Suns in the next series.

As for the refs giving a series to the Spurs, what else is new? Stern's still making them pay penance for letting those lowly Mavs beat the Spurs last season. :g

Best case Lakers scenario: trade Andrew Bynum + picks for JKidd. Trade Kwame Brown to Kings for Artest. Trade Lamar Odom, Jordan Farmar, Brian Cook, whoever the fuck else it takes for Kevin Garnett. Sign a quality veteran or two looking to compete for the minimum. Throw Smush Parker's bags into the Staples Center parking lot and have him escorted from the premises. Starting lineup features Kobe, Garnett, Artest, and JKidd.

Possible.

Trade Kwame Brown to Kings for Artest.

Is Kwame's contract expiring? Otherwise the Kings would have to be insane to make this trade. Maybe even more insane than Artest himself.

Slightly less nutty than the Artest trade, but I think the Wolves can get a much better package from another team.

Could they afford the salaries of that starting lineup?

And you forgot to get rid of Bill Walton Jr.

Next year's salaries for each of these players:

Kobe $19.5M

Artest $7.8M

Garnett $22.0M

Kidd $19.7M

------------

sum = $69M

by point of comparison, the Lakers' payroll this year was $77M. So yes, it's possible -- but you'd have to get rid of Odom ($13.5M next year), Kwame Brown ($9M), and probably Radmanovic ($5.6M).

FWIW, Kwame's contract DOES expire next year, but so does Artest's. So there's absolutely no gain to the Kings from making this trade unless they are REALLY desperate to unload Artest.

Brian Grant made $15M this year. I assume Pat Riley gave him that crazy contract?

Walton made $1.25M this year, which is not a bad deal. But he is completely replaceable.

He's right about Hinrick's flop against Chauncey last night. Pistons were within 6 before that lame foul. Chauncey got benched with his fourth and the Bulls went on a 22-2 run and put the game away. Chauncey was leading his team to a comeback, putting everyone on his shoulders, scored the last 10 points by himself, single-handedly taking over the game and then he gets benched for a stupid flop.

It is those kind of game-changing decisions that refs make that are so frustrating.

I've said this to friends before (and I wasn't kidding) -- as soon as the technology becomes advanced enough, the league should replace human referees with robots/computers.
