I see that Amazon has bumped their shipping rates for CDs. CDs used to ship for $2.59 but now have gone up to $2.98. It must have happened in the last day or two because I just noticed it today.

I placed an order today with another one of my online favorites which I think has one of the best shipping rates on the internet for CDs. I hope their rates don't go up as well but I guess it's likely to go up with everyone considering the hikes in postal rates.

The Post Office has what are called "Forever" stamps now, that you can purchase for 41 cents apiece, according to their website.

This means that these particular stamps will be good forever, regardless of any future price increases.

Quote from the website:

In 2007, the U.S. Postal Service will issue the Forever stamp, which will always be valid as First-Class postage on standard envelopes weighing one ounce or less, regardless of any subsequent increases in the First-Class rate.

I think these would be the ones to buy from here on out, and not any of the stamps actually marked "41 cents", if they're good forever.

I don't know if these are only available for a limited time, or will always be available for purchase.

I'm looking at the international rates, which seem to have gone a big change. No surface main option???? All are first class or priority rates.

I was talking with the nice mail lady at the post office in my building at work and she said that they are indeed getting rid of the surface option.

With a stated delivery time of 4-6 weeks, I have never even touched that service.

All stamps should be this way. I just bought a book of 39 cent stamps at a grocery store about a week ago, and I know I won't use them up before the increase. If they were all "forever" stamps, I wouldn't be stuck with these puppies, or have to buy 2 cent stamps to make up the difference until I finish the book.

I've been buying my stamps from the self-service kiosk, and I notice that my 1/2 booklet simply says "First Class" on it - no .39. There is a date of 2006. Seems to me that these should be treated as "Forever" stamps.

It should also be noted that the PO says it will not immediately start returning mail with old stamps as "postage due", so it is safe for the time being to use those old stamps you still have.
