Are these on CD? They are Arista/Freedom and the 2 Andrew Hills are on CD so there's hope. If so, where can I get them?

Volume Two has an otherwise unrecorded Grachan Moncur III composition.

Thanks,

Bertrand.

Kinda pricey - I really want the Moncur tune only. Looks like I can't access their download site because I'm not in Germany.

At least I know it's out there - I'll keep an eye out.

Thanks,

Bertrand.

A couple years back, Volume 1 was no more difficult to find than the Black Lion CDs or the "red" Charly reissues. I got mine at a discount chain, and I would imagine that copies still circulate at used joints and the like.

Volume 2 has been reissued by da Music (Germany) in 2006:

Volume 1 has not been reissued by that label, and seems to be hard to find. But it was reissued on CD in 1988:

You totally got my post wrong - I'm questioning the timings on the bootleg that Jim posted. The options are:

1) They are wrong on the boot

2) One of the tunes on the boot is truncated

3) The album is in fact only 28 minutes long

My triple question marks refer to the fact that I seriously doubt the info on the boot from a discographical standpoint. I'm hoping that someone with the da music CD will in fact confirm my hunch that 'Blues For Doanld Duck' is actually 17+ minutes.

Bottom line - I mostly want to hear the Moncur composition that is otherwise unrecorded, even by its composer. This is for my research on Moncur's compositions, not for an Archie Shepp discography. If the only way to hear this piece is to buy the CD no matter how short it might be, then so be it. But I am hoping to get the track some other way. For example, volume One is on iTunes, so Two may appear one day. Life's too short to hope to hear every Shepp recording.

'Blues for Donald Duck' on the Montreux Two Arista vinyl is timed at 15m40s.

On the 'Archie Shepp A Massy' double LP 'Blues for Donald Duck' is the opening track (disc 1, side A, 19m50s) and goes on to side B (9m30s).

The album also includes a version of Moncur's 'Hypnosis'.

Odd about the inconsistent timings. Brownie - does 'Donald Duck' take up the entire second side of the Arista vinyl? Then I would doubt it's only 7:30. Regardless of discussions on quantity vs. quality, I don't know too many jazz LPs which are only 7:30 a side :w

So then Bluerein's 'complete' set is not really complete, is it? Very confusing. Or did Archie do two different sets at Montreux?

'Donald Duck' is the Moncur composition, sorry I wasn't clearer about that. GM3 has yet to record it. There's some inside joke about this piece that I am not inside enough to get - at the Iridium gig last year, someone requested it and Grachan asked from the stage 'Who is that? Mickey Bass?' I wonder if the tune has anything to do with Don Patterson. I think he was sometimes nicknamed Donald Duck.

If you google 'Blues For Donald Duck Moncur', this thread comes up :)

It looks like drummer Donald Bailey also was nicknamed 'Duck'. Any evidence that GM3 was ever associated with either Patterson or Bailey? How about Donald Duck Dunn :) Maybe during Grachan's Stax days...

The full (15m40s) version of 'Blues for Donald Duck' is the sole track on side 2 of the Montreux Two LP.
