The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 I've been slinking quick looks over here, in the intervals between helping my missus prepare the lavish buffet for the family (too many people, not enough table space). Now relaxing with a glass of port after the morning's labours. (We usually go to our daughter's, but they don't want us chucking food over the carpet, since they're in a rented place while they're building their new house.) MG Quote
tonym Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Ho ho ho........! I'm just having a quick look while my wife is getting ready to go out. I'm supposed to be too. Quote
Van Basten II Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 It may sound harsh, distant and cold, but to me Christmas is no different than Labor Day or Canada's day it is just an excuse to have a day off and have time to do what i enjoy the most. Among those things hanging around this board. Quote

Van Basten II Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 I have not been very present the last few weeks, so i have time to get back on top of things, plus it gives me time to go through my baclklog of CDs to listen. For my money the Ray Charles Atlantic set kicks the butt of any freakin' tune that we are supposed to play at this time of the year. Quote
MoGrubb Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Huh, it is Christmas, isn't it. I may go out and have Chinese food later, I don't know. I may just whip up a plate of spaghetti. [Not as pathetic as it may sound. ] Quote

Among those things hanging around this board. Christmas Day always seems so "end of the road" to me, but it is very different for me than Labor Day, etc.... I enjoy the Christmas Season, and the build-up of it all. The Day itself is usually an anti-climax. I guess we have to find our own fun in the holiday and choose to make the best of the season---or not. I'm here because wife and baby are still sleeping and I'm waiting for the coffee pot to finish. I'm generally a happy go lucky kind of guy and i prefer to enjoy myself more in the quotidianity(not sure that's a real word) of our every day life than having a celebration forced down our throats. sidewinder Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 (edited) Will be hitting the road for a family 'do' a bit later but just calling in here with glass of wine in hand and Mosaic Hodges 56-61 set blaring away and doing its magic. Roast Welsh lamb in the oven. Dillema at 3pm. Watch Her Maj on TV or listen to more Mosaic? Edited December 25, 2007 by sidewinder Quote
Stefan Wood Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Just woke up....................... Quote
vibes Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Been up since 4am and am waiting for everyone else to wake up. Nice to have some extra time to myself and to catch up on some tunes. It would be even better if my iPod hadn't crapped out yesterday. I lost 130GB of music and movies, and have a week to go before I get home. At least I have a few GB of music on my laptop. *sigh* Merry Christmas, everybody. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 After Zora woke us up at 7am because she was yelling from her bedroom that she had to go potty (she didn't want to come out of her bedroom, in case Santa was still here), we opened presents. Since then, I've been working on these: Quote
MoGrubb Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 ... Since then, I've been working on these:Oh man! You're a cruel man, Alfredson. Quote

I'm sorry you see it that way. Sounds a bit too negative for my tastes, but I'm sure you have reasons for the way you feel. I see a lot of other things forced down my throat, but, as you say, we focus on having time to do the things we enjoy the most. Quote
BeBop Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 I'm certainly a thousand miles or more from Christmas (the holiday, or the season - you know...snow/cold). And here (Muscat), it's nearly the 26th anyway. Quote
7/4 Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 I'll get together with my Parents and family later today...until then, it's just another day. Quote
AndrewHill Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Been up since 4am too, and the kids tore that tree apart for about an hour straight. Started the turkey at 9am, ate at 2pm and my wife and I are enjoying a great bottle of wine and watching "A Christmas Story" with the kids. Overall, a great holiday! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 25, 2007 Author Report Posted December 25, 2007 A great afternoon! James built his Lego Pirate Ship, then he and Lawrence played their new Wii Olympics game. I managed to only fall into a post-prandial sleep twice while listening to my son-in-law drone on about planning permission for their new house; but amazed everyone by carrying on a conversation at the time. We all ate too much, except the kids, of course, who had presents to deal with. I don't 'arf feel FAT! All gone on to Bernard's mother's now. Phew! MG Quote
Free For All Posted December 25, 2007 Report Posted December 25, 2007 Currently in hour 20 of 24 hour marathon of "A Christmas Story". Starting to hallucinate............ Quote

Van Basten II Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 How about starting a thread what are you doing here instead of being part of a crazed mob on a buying spree for the boxing day. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 26, 2007 Author Report Posted December 26, 2007 I bet everybody's having the same thing for luch that we've just had Curried leftovers MG Quote
jazzbo Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 Hmmm . . curried leftovers is a good idea. . . but no leftovers! Ate seafood gumbo yesterday evening . . courtesy of Selina Hamblen and her cooking skills. . . it was excellent. Quote
MoGrubb Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 I'm gonna have leftovers, not from Christmas dinner, but from last weekend. [beef barbeque made from a dried out roast] Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 ... Since then, I've been working on these:Oh man! You're a cruel man, Alfredson. Yes I am. And I would just like to say that the lemon meringue pie in the photo was my first attempt and it turned out picture perfect. I'm also eating a piece right now, with some extra whipped cream on the side (just to be decadent) and it is really delicious! Quote
