Pim Posted Sunday at 11:55 AM Report Posted Sunday at 11:55 AM With Django I am not necessarily a completist. I really like his music but 40cds are way too much to digest for me. Thanks Steve anyway for your thoughts Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted Sunday at 12:05 PM Report Posted Sunday at 12:05 PM I wouldn't disagree with you about 40 CDs being a bit much. Quote
Niko Posted Sunday at 01:20 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:20 PM I have those 40CDs and must say I am happy with them, the documentation is excellent and I know I will never have to buy anything by Django again... Can't say I've played all of them yet though... Before that I used to have the Django CDs from the Jazz in Paris series... They give a really nice overview of his career as a whole... There was also a box set collecting those Jazz in Paris CDs but that one seems to be rare... Here is an old thread about Django boxsets Quote

miles65 Posted 11 minutes ago Report Posted 11 minutes ago For the completists The Savory collection has a few recordings with Ellington unknown at the time. And unavailable if they had known. They are from Carnegie Hall. My notes are sketchy. Among the tunes are Happy Go Lucky Local, Improvisation 1, Honeysuckle rose (14:33) and iirc Happy Go Lucky Local, Improvisation 2, Honeysuckle rose (14:35). There were concerts 23th and 24th November 1946. Quote
