Soul Stream Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I was checking out my Water reissues last night. What a great company and the production value and care was unbelievable. Plus, they put out great titles nobody else would even dream about....I mean to have Lou Donaldson's "Say It Loud", Reuben Wilson's "Groovy Situation" and others reissued in such a caring way is pretty unreal. Are they still active? Do they have a website? Quote
paul secor Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 (edited) Here's a listing on their distributor's website: http://www.runtdistribution.com/water.html CD Universe carries their releases: http://www.cduniverse.com/sresult.asp?HT_S...p;altsearch=yes Edited February 20, 2008 by paul secor Quote
paul secor Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Interesting, eclectic label - I have a few of their issues, plus originals of a bunch of others they've reissued. Thanks for posting the query. Looking through their catalog, I see that there are a few things I'm interested in - Sandy Bull, Paul Kelly, Holy Modal Rounders. Quote
AndrewHill Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Thought they did a nice job on the Ayler. Quote
Soul Stream Posted February 20, 2008 Author Report Posted February 20, 2008 Does anybody know if they have an email address? I'd like to get in contact with them. Thanks ahead for any help. Quote
AndrewHill Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Soulstream, It seems that Water is distributed by Runt. Here's an email: info@runtdistribution.com Hope that helps, HG Quote
AndrewHill Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 And here's Water's page vis a vis Runt: http://www.runtdistribution.com/water.html Quote
WorldB3 Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 (edited) There was a write up on Runt in one of our local weekly's last summer. http://www.sfweekly.com/2006-08-16/music/the-italian-job/1 The focus on the article is on 70's Italian Prog Rock. I have a friend who did some marketing for Water about 3 years ago. He hooked me up with some Eddie Gayle, Ablert Ayler and Terry Reid re-issues. Edited February 20, 2008 by WorldB3 Quote
jazzbo Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 (edited) I think they did a fantastic job on the Eddie Gales, I wrote a nice review of them when they were released. And yes, the Ayler "Riviera Concert" release was exceptionally well done (as all of the Waters are, really) and a favorite. Edited February 20, 2008 by jazzbo Quote

I definitely want to check out the Eddie Gales disks, especially the date with Jimmy Lyons! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 They don't seem to have released anything new for quite some time, however. MG Quote
kenny weir Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Paul Kelly Dirt's a soul classic! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 They don't seem to have released anything new for quite some time, however. MG I thought they reissued that Ornette album, To Whom Who Keeps A Record, within the past several months. Quote

MG I thought they reissued that Ornette album, To Whom Who Keeps A Record, within the past several months. My copy has a 2006 date on the back, so its been almost two years. Interestingly enough the cd was manufactured by Rhino (and leased from Atlantic of course!) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Dang, where have those years gone??? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Water made so much money from these reissues the said "no more" and stopped. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 That's what i thought. They bought a bunch of yachts and are just cruisin'! Quote
paul secor Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Water is reissuing Ornette's The Art of the Improvisors next month - with, oddly enough, two "bonus" tracks from To Whom Who Keeps a Record, which they've already reissued. So I guess they're still around - more or less. Quote

Bluesnik Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 i stopped hearing about new jazz reissues from Water some time ago, but they reissued some nice Brazilian stuff about a year or two ago. Quote
Soul Stream Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 I emailed them and this is the response I received...perhaps if those interested emailed also, it could get something happening... I am a huge fan of the job Water records did on the long-neglected Blue Note organ titles Lou Donaldson's "Say It Loud", Reuben Wilson's "A Groovy Situation" and Jack McDuff's "Who Knows What Tomorrow's Gonna Bring." I wondered if Water was planning to do anything further along these lines in the near future? hello! for now there's no plan of doing anything else in that genre but who knows... thanks for writing Filippo The email address is filippo@runtdistribution.com Quote
