Google maps "street view"

Almost all of Lansing is mapped out for a 360 degree street view. Looks like the pics were taken last fall, based on the appearance of my house. I see much of Chicago and NY is also visible.

How did they do it??

Driving around in a car with a camera on the roof. Saw them last week in Stockholm in a beaten 1980s Volvo 740.

At this rate they'll get to my parent's home in CT sometime after my unborn niece's great great grandchildren enter a nursing home on Mars.

It's flipped out going through my neighbor hood and seeing six month old photos. There was lots of building here before the great crash of October 2008.

I checked out a customers building to see who's car was in the lot and there was scafolding on the building that I've never seen, so those shots are at least 20 months old.

The year is 2020. The World is entirely photographed by Google Street View. Well not entirely!

The picture of my house looks like it was taken over a year ago, perhaps earlier, judging from the trees and the car in the driveway.

I used to have Google earth, but it went, of course, when I did a system restore. Can someone give me a handy link to download it please?

Thanks very much. I see my house is in there now - but not most of my neighbours'; so it's about 3 years out of date here.

Same here. The picture data is from 2005.

And only the center of the country is covered with detailed pictures.

The Google cars and vans have been seen in reflections on some of the Streetview shots.

I was mapping out a trip to the Portland OR suburbs last fall and was surprised to see that Streetview had expanded its range. So after getting my map I tried various other addresses in other cities and saw that my sister's neighborhood outside of Philly was included in Streetview. I go up her street and see this boy a couple of houses down walking down the sidewalk. It was my nephew! My sister kind of freaked out about it (yes, the Google Streetview van is famous for snatching young boys away from their parents.) Google Streetview is Big Brother!

I spotted a Google Street View car a few days ago in Luxembourg city. If it was taking pictures, I'm on them, as I was standing on the sidewalk.

BTW, I wonder when Google Street View will be banned to prevent terrorism ...
