Fab Four Jazz: the Beatles and Jazz in the 1960s

Music from Stanley Turrentine, Woody Herman, Sonny Criss, Lee Morgan, Bud Shank, etc., plus some commentary from historian Michael McGerr.

Some links there as well to Martin Williams' parody of fellow critics reviewing Beatles albums, Ella singing "Can't Buy Me Love," and more.

Next week: "The Ornette Coleman Songbook: Early Interpretations of a Jazz Pioneer"

When I was young(er), the Beatles epitomized the 60s. Now, the sixties are all about Brasil 66, Burt Bacharach, Bossa Nova, Italian soundtracks, etc.

I almost never listen to the Beatles, and prefer jazz and sleazy listening covers of their tunes - especially covers of their psychedelic numbers by aging jazzers. These are so much more subversive than the real thing.
