Hardbopjazz Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) These contractors are installing the steel pillars in concrete to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement outside a Sports Bar downtown. They are now in the process of cleaning up at the end of the day and anxious to go home. Edited June 2, 2009 by Hardbopjazz Quote
BruceH Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Very similar to painting yourself into a corner...only even dumber. Quote
Noj Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 It might not be the case in this image, but posts like that which I have seen around here have a lock which releases them at the bottom and they slide out. Quote
Claude Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Not funny, because it's old and a myth http://snopes.com/photos/automobiles/bollards.asp Quote
rostasi Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Under different conditions, these bollards (which sink into the ground) are real traffic stoppers. There's a bunch of YouTube vids that you can find with people trying to get past rising ones, often with disastrous results. From a more educational perspective, you can see how incredibly effective these are. Quote
Quincy Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 From a more educational perspective, you can see how incredibly effective these are. Wow! Now I see why our Federal Building went with that model. It is now safe from trucks loaded with sand! Quote
Claude Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I think the bollards used in the picture are the simple, removable ones, which are not nearly as resistant http://www.autopa.co.uk/autopa_bollards.ph...ge=retractabase Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Amusing pic, no matter how many times I see it. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted June 2, 2009 Author Report Posted June 2, 2009 It fooled me. This is a video shows how drivers are dumb to attempt to drive through them. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 I don't think I've ever seen the word "bollards" before; I keep thinking of the Sex Pistols LP for some reason... Quote
JSngry Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 I don't think I've ever seen the word "bollards" before; I keep thinking of the Sex Pistols LP for some reason... And I keep thinking about defecating after eating a big bowl of greens....not a very pleasant image to carry around, although the act itself is certainly good for the body as well as the soul. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Bollocks! Hey, there's no need to get nasty... Quote
JSngry Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Michael J. Bollard ....not a very pleasant image to carry around... See? Quote
