Dan Gould
Just found Malice on cable, leading me to think of this silly poll. I don't watch the current TV show so if there's something truly better than any of these three, sorry. Schweddy Balls
Jazzmoose
Schweddy Balls without a doubt. Two pulled ribcage muscles and a sore jaw!

Neal Pomea
Bill Brasky's Funeral. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/96/96nbrasky.phtml "He had a four day heart attack!" AllenLowe
I find Baldwin too "actor" ish, though I have seen him do well - also, I knew his dad, who was a social studies teacher at my high school.
Chalupa
He actually does a really good job as the narrator on Thomas the Tank Engine.

Dan Gould
Bill Brasky's Funeral. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/96/96nbrasky.phtml "He had a four day heart attack!" Maybe its better in the performance but that transcript reads like a typical shitty SNL sketch, one of hundreds that made it increasingly impossible to watch over the last ten years, if not longer. Noj
He played a good psycho in Miami Blues, but I was just laughing my ass off watching the Schweddy Balls skit, and it's not like it's the first time I've seen it. Don't forget his SNL performances as the Boy Scout leader.

SNL has been guilty forever of ***PREMISE OVERLOAD***. 1.) An idea is made into a sketch, but wears thin after about 30 seconds. But they keep at it. 2.) A sketch/character does well, becomes a regular thing and gets run into the ground (or is made into a movie) Worst SNL movies? It's Pat! (pretty much went straight to video) Superstar Stuart Saves His Family (featuring Senator Al Franken) The Coneheads movie wasn't terrible, it just was made too long after the popularity of the characters was at its peak. Blues Brothers was excellent IMO, Wayne's World was OK, but both sequels suffered from severe ***PREMISE OVERLOAD***
king ubu
would be news to me if any of them Baldwins ever did any "great" performance... but I guess that's just artsy-fartsy (return of the film corner) me...
Dan Gould
Here's a shock: I just discovered Malice was like a warm-up for future Seinfeld guest actors: Tobin Bell played the serial killer that has nothing to do with the main plot of the movie and was in The Old Man episode as the Bleeker Bob's counterman who tells Kramer and Newman their LPs aren't worth squat. And, I just spotted Brenda Strong in a tiny role as a secretary, and she went on to play Sue Ellen Mishke (who truly epitomized "real and spectacular"). would be news to me if any of them Baldwins ever did any "great" performance... but I guess that's just artsy-fartsy (return of the film corner) me... You don't think it was a great cameo in Glengarry Glen Ross? Its obvious to me that he's the only talented Baldwin, but I think he does have some talent. king ubu
Dan, to be honest, I've not seen that one... but I've just never been convinced by any of the Baldwins, and hence haven't felt like hunting down their films... I gather that one's sort of a classic, will try and catch it whenever it'll be on the big screen! (I hate to see films on DVD for the first time, films that I've not seen in a theatre before... but again, that's artsy-fartsy me...) Big Al
He actually does a really good job as the narrator on Thomas the Tank Engine. I was just going to mention how much I enjoyed his performance in the Thomas and the Magic Railroad movie that came out in 2001. I thought he was completely believable in that role, and I guess that would be my definition of a good actor: someone who can convince me that they ARE the character they are playing. Off-topic: did anyone notice a lot of Easy Rider connections in that movie? Edited October 7, 2009 by Big Al
Free For All
And, I just spotted Brenda Strong in a tiny role as a secretary, and she went on to play Sue Ellen Mishke (who truly epitomized "real and spectacular"). Sue Ellen Mishke was the braless O'Henry heir. Sidra (Teri Hatcher) was the "they're real and they're spectacular" girl. But I think I know where you're coming from. Dave James
I think the best thing about Alec Baldwin is that he's learned not to take himself too seriously, much in the manner of William Shatner. Up over and out.
Dan Gould
And, I just spotted Brenda Strong in a tiny role as a secretary, and she went on to play Sue Ellen Mishke (who truly epitomized "real and spectacular"). Sue Ellen Mishke was the braless O'Henry heir. Sidra (Teri Hatcher) was the "they're real and they're spectacular" girl. But I think I know where you're coming from. That would be why I said she "epitomized" real and spectacular.

I've always thought he did stellar in Hunt For Red October, one of my all time favs, although I haven't seen the other movies mentioned. Guess I need to prime the Netflix queue this week. MartyJazz
I've always liked Baldwin, especially in early comic roles, e.g., his line and take in "Working Girl" when caught in the sack with another woman, he says to Melanie Griffith, "It's not what it looks like!" Like his comic work in "Married to the Mob", "Beetlejuice" and "State and Main" as well. On the serious side, he plays a terrific, ruthless casino owner in "The Cooler". Rent that one! AllenLowe
sorry, I'm always just too aware that he's "acting." Maybe he reminds me just a little too much of my old drama school days. Always seems like he's admiring himself in the mirror.
