chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 ok the colour printing on the BN labels is strange, its not like other period ones i dont think but i am certain its not a forgery, i mean the catalog #'s are correct, but its weird thats all there is in the deadwax, the catalog #'s with the begining "8" off the stereo # removed-- cause i guess, this particualar lp was only mono for the promos, is that correct? its mint and nice. i must of not hear this one in a real long while, have seen it lately as a reissue lp in the stores for 9.99-- maybe the kids'll pick them up. mine i just got though, oh man. doesnt necessarily replace the cd as far as mix is concerned, but yea its gonna be sweet- its a regular stereo cover w/ one of those little mono audition stickers pasted over it (kind of at an angle, kind of sloppily put on if u ask me) Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 um, im not sure mono is getting my jollies off the same way for this late 60s BN lp as it does for say a late 60s rock lp mix.....i mean, i know i generally perfer mono, but i guess im SO used to the spacial element of the 60s Bluenotes, i dont know what im trying to say- oh wait heres hank now, this is going to be good no matter what Quote
JSngry Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 ok the colour printing on the BN labels is strange, Is the blue more of a turquoise/aqua? I've got some like that, always wondered what the deal was. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 yyyeeeeeaaaa..................................like it is trying to be a crappy BN DAT mastered reissue, but its NOT a crappy BN DAT mastered reissue.....i think we may be riding down the same gravy boat on this one, have you noticed it solely on your promos, or is there any rhyme and reason to the sceme of catalogue nos. you see it on? this is my only one thus for, i believe......... Quote
JSngry Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Haven't looked at it analytically...I think maybe an Andrew Hill & a Dippin' of mine have that aqua coloring, maybe some more...maybe they're all monos from the mid-60s too? Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 hmmm........ Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 I have a few like that also but they are stereo. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 just noticed, DB mistakenly gets songwriting credit for Eldorado, on lp label only Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 can someone check and see if the label is like that on the stereo issue too? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 I was thinking the other day, I've never, ever, seen a BN promo record, and I was wondering if there were such things. I had one or two mono BNs from the mid sixties - "Let 'em roll" was one I've still got and doesn't look any different from any others. "Street of dreams" (stereo), however, was a slightly darker shade of blue. I always wondered why. MG Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 before liberty, i dont know. maybe they gave out review copies w/ a big PROMOTION sticker stamped on the back. thats what prestige did, right btw its the same little sticker seen on period World Pacifics too...its a liberty thing for sure Quote

Now I come to think of it, I've never seen a Prestige promo, either, to my knowledge - though I've got a Prestige test LP. MG Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 The BNs usually have big "Audition Copy" stamps on the back of the jacket - at least during the Liberty era of the late '60s, that's what they had. As for Prestige/New Jazz, my few promos have "Review Copy" stamped on one label and on the back of the jacket in small-ish type. They weren't differentiated by label color like Verve and ABC/Impulse, for example. Quote
sidewinder Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 As for Prestige/New Jazz, my few promos have "Review Copy" stamped on one label and on the back of the jacket in small-ish type. I've got a few of them too - mostly blue label. Quote
brownie Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I have quite a number of those Prestige/New Jazz (Bergenfields). A few have 'Not for Sale', several have 'PREVIEW COPY' signs mostly in red stampers. All on the liner notes. Nothing on the labels. Blue Note albums that came direct from BN offices have no indications they were preview copies. Quote
