AfricaBrass Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 I've been using this for a couple weeks. The only thing involving my firewall was when it asked me to allow it to send info to sharingthegroove when I first started using it. Other than that, my firewall is normal and I've been leaving shows up for others to download. There's some great Coltrane and Miles up there now. I've got some Dead shows, a bunch of Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, Zappa, etc... Quote
Jazz Groove Posted December 12, 2003 Author Report Posted December 12, 2003 I don't seem to have problems with my firewall. It let's me through both ways. While you are downloading the files, you will also see an upload indicator along with the download indicator. My firewall hasn't caused a problem yet. There are a lot of good jazz stuff. Plenty of Coltrane and Miles. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Jazz Groove, Thanks for starting this thread! I've been having a lot of fun at sharingthegroove.com Quote
Jazz Groove Posted December 12, 2003 Author Report Posted December 12, 2003 Jazz Groove, Thanks for starting this thread! I've been having a lot of fun at sharingthegroove.com You're most welcome. I've found some really good stuff there. Not just jazz. Quote
Jazz Groove Posted December 16, 2003 Author Report Posted December 16, 2003 yet another great site for live shows. http://db.etree.org/roach420 Quote
RDK Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 <Bump> since this site came up again in another thread - and because there's some incredible live and unreleased stuff on here that has to be heard! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I am so grateful that the link to sharingthegroove.com was posted here. I have found stuff that I had been looking for for years. They seem to try hard to respect copyrights over there. I know that live shows aren't authorized in the first place, but at least they don't allow any commercially released material to be posted. I have downloaded some great Coltrane and Miles, etc... Quote
RDK Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Hey AB, did you get that live Ornette Coleman-Paul Bley Hillcrest date (from 1958 I believe)? Great stuff! Also check out that Don Cherry-Dollar Brand set from the early 70s. Was just posted a couple of days ago. Killer! Quote
jazzbo Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I've got that Dragon Messengers cd too. It's great! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Thanks for the tip, RDK! I haven't downloaded those yet. I'm busy working on some huge Grateful Dead downloads at bt.etree.org - I wish I could download more. I've been trying really hard to upload more than I download, so sometimes I'm stuck uploading only. I did pick up a cool Don Cherry from 1965 a couple months ago. Thanks for bringing this thread back up! Quote
RDK Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 My only problem with STG is that the downloads are fairly slow for me - much slower than the speeds I get from the newsgroups for example. Still, if I start a download at night, it might be done the next morning or later in the day if i can get away with leaving my computer on while I'm gone. I've been stunned by the sound quality of some of these shows. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Yeah, RDK, sharingthegroove can be slow. I haven't tried newsgroups for shn files. You're right about the amazing sound quality of a lot of these shows. Some of the sets are amazing too. One of my favorites was a 26 disc set of the complete Bob Dylan recordings from 1966. I remember searching for years to find some of this stuff in the past. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 This site has been great. I've found a lot of stuff. I am right now downloading a Louis Armstrong show from 1954. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 Sharingthegroove seems to be down - see here. Quote
medjuck Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 I've finally figured out how to use Easytree and it was worth the effort. I was able to download a Mingus video (1964) and several Gil Evans concerts, one of which (RAI band with Lee Konitz) I didn't know existed. none of these are available for sale so I don't feel I'm ripping anyone off. RDK Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 STG is dead (for now at least). Read more about it at www.tunesonthemove.net Quote
