With the selections of decent jazz issues becoming slimmer and slimmer over at yourmusic.com, I was curious what you guys thought of this release? I'm thinking about adding it to my queue for possible future purchase.

Excellent set. I thought I had enough Lovano but this one is a little different from the normal run of Lovano recordings. Recommended.

Yes, the difference is STEVE KUHN!

Thanks guys for the solid endorsements. Now added to my queue. Don't have any Lovano at present so I'll be curious how he fares on this release. I do own a single Steve Kuhn release, the Live At Birdland date from 2007.

That's right but also the material is strong and is treated with respect.

will have to look for this one eventually... fell in love with Kuhn's playing last year, but so far never came around to buying this one (and many others... all those darn japanese discs costing half a fortune...)

Quite correct. Lovano is horrible, one of the most boring, pointless chops players to have such a long career but Steve Kuhn is terrific, and the rhythm section is right there with him.

I appreciate Manfred Eicher getting Kuhn out there again but sure wish he had picked another horn, or just skipped the tenor altogether.

Did anyone listen to, and not want to vomit, when they heard Lovano's nauseating Ben Webster imitations (try the worst ever version of "Soultrane" as an example) on that duet album with Hank Jones? Of course, I never would've willingly listened to such a thing except I was stuck in an airport lounge in Lyon where the bartender had it on repeat, damn you Jean-Pierre!

Can't Agree more.

By the way, mine is to sell in a list who's three or four months old.
