colinmce
Alex Chilton has died today at age 59. Very sad news. Whether with the Box Tops, the immortal Big Star or on his own, he was always great.

ghost of miles
Crap. I only saw him once, back in the late 1980s at Second Story in Bloomington. There was actually a lot of jazz in AC's background, growing up in Memphis in the late 1950s/60s. I still love those Big Star records and will have to break them out again... a reconfigured version of the band was supposed to be playing South by Southwest this weekend. Best wishes for a long ride in the big black car, Alex.

AndrewHill
Wow. Sad sad news. Recall the song The Replacements wrote about him on "Pleased to Meet Me".
danasgoodstuff
Untimely, to be sure, but not a big deal to me personally (I mean that in the nicest possible way). but when I heard Tommy Cogbill had died, "I cried like a baby". BruceH
"59"???? That's just not right. BTW, Al Green did a nice cover of "The Letter" way back when.
Chalupa
Heard some disturbing news today. Apparently Alex Chilton had been suffering form chest pains for a few days before his heart attack but didn't go to the doctor because he didn't have health insurance. http://www.spinner.com/2010/04/13/alex-chilton-heart-attack-death-health-insurance/
