chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 ok ok i dont even think liberty did copies of this, but the bluenotes w/ the UA labels, definetly did. ive seen em on ebay, now i found one in real life (didnt get it yet). it is not vangelder stampers. some other initials are in the deadwax, its definetly not the same stampers. i just got a new hank mosaic set, the sound is...um....i dont think i can listen to jazz on cd anymore. unless its like fusion or synthesizers, or maybe xrcd. but i wasnt about to plunk down 30 for this just yet, espically since i just splurged on the new mosaic for my b-day last month. so yea, has anyone heard the UA press of this-- sure, its significntly lesser generation than the mosaic, but hell, i really dont know abt it-- all opinions welcome, thanks Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 I can deal with mono UA pressings okay, prefer a good King or recent-ish CD (not being able to plunk down on a w. 63rd). Quote
brownie Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 I found happiness with the Toshiba/EMI vinyl from the '70s (or 'early '80s?) and have not looked further for this session! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 I have it on CD. That's fine - not my first go-to of the 50s Mobley BNs. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 The UA pressing of this was one of a number of out of print lps (both 10 and 12 inch) pressed for the Japanese market. They "over pressed" the Japanese order and sold them here through cut-out dealers. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 I have it on CD. That's fine - not my first go-to of the 50s Mobley BNs. Really? Its like another Horace Silver Quintet/early Messengers date. Quote
