Chalupa Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 I had one back in the day. Not exactly audiophile quality but they were/are a workhorse. http://gizmodo.com/5675818/end-of-an-era-panasonic-kills-off-technics-turntables Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 I can't get to the link, but the Technics SP-12 was the standard for 78 transfers for a long time. Quote
Chalupa Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 Hmm.. that's odd the link works for me. Try this one... Link to story Quote
rostasi Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 This was THE table to get for DJs - still is for some people. Good, dependable, rock solid and a real breeze to manipulate. I started using these in 1974 in radio stations and they were the club favorite in the 80's, so nearly all of us used them. I didn't actually own one until I could afford it in '92 and then I bought TWO of them with a mixer that sat in a "coffin." Sold both of them just a few years ago and used the money to buy ONE digital Stanton STR8-150 which is what I use today. Quote
Brad Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Think I had one about 30 years ago. Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 UPDATE: Panasonic is in fact ceasing production of the SL-1200MK6 model specifically, while other Technics turntable models will live on. Phew! Sincere apologies for the misunderstanding. Quote

Phew! Sincere apologies for the misunderstanding. Ah ha! That makes more sense! I mean after all (cover your eyes Bev!), we are in something of a vinyl resurgence. Quote
Shawn Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 My turntable is a Technics SL-1800mk2, no idea how old it is...I bought it used in the late 90's. It's just fine for my small LP collection. Quote
