GA Russell Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 It's that time of year again! It's time for the annual Grey Cup contest. (Past winners have included Noj (twice), brownie and Shane/indestructible.) Here are the rules: 1) Pick the winning team. 2) Pick the number of total points scored by both teams. (aka the tiebreaker) Since approximately half of us will pick the winning team, picking the total points is necessary to win the contest. Your total points prediction must be a number which is a multiple of five (5). The winning tiebreaker will be the one closest to the correct answer. If two are equally close, the winner will be the lower pick. If two people pick the same thing, the first to make the pick will be the winner. THE PRIZE: A $17.00 Mosaic Records Gift Certificate, good for both Mosaic and True Blue records. The $17.00 represents one CD of a Mosaic box set. Deadline: kickoff, Sunday Nov. 28, 6:00 pm eastern. ***** The Grey Cup game: The Grey Cup is awarded to the world champion of what I think is the greatest game in the world, Canadian rules football. That is to say, the champion of the Canadian Football League. This year's game will be a rematch of last year's, played by the Eastern champion Montreal Alouettes and the Western champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. The location of the game is chosen years in advance. This year's game will be played in the western city of Edmonton. You can expect that there will be many more Roughrider fans there than Als fans. Montreal is the defending Grey Cup champ, and was a better team than Sask this year, finishing first in the East with a 12-6 record. Saskatchewan finished second in the West with a 10-8 record. It is likely to be cold in Edmonton (the northernmost city with a team in the league), and the Riders proved that they could win in the sub-zero cold this past Sunday in the Western Final in Calgary. The game's kickoff will be at 6:00 pm eastern, so that time has been designated the deadline for this contest. You can listen to the game here: http://www.am770chqr.com/index.aspx (To listen to the game, you will need Windows Media Player which you can download for free. So you might want to plan ahead if you don't already have it.) You can study the season as it has developed with the CFL thread, which I will be updating during the course of this week. For the first preview of the game, see the comments by the knowledgeable David Naylor here: http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=342370 Good luck! Here's my pick (same as last year): Montreal, 50 points Quote
Indestructible! Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Montreal - 55 points. I remember going to the 1984 Grey Cup in Edmonton... Winnipeg destroyed Hamilton in that game, but what I mostly remember is that it was about -20 degrees at kick-off. Hope this year's game isn't nearly as cold. Seats were great though... 55 yard line! GregK Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 My computer is too slow to search, but I'd like to know what I picked last year. Montreal, total of 50 points Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Wonder if the Riders have hired someone to make sure they always have no more than 12 men on the field Quote
John Tapscott Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Saskatchewan - 65 points (high but this is the CFL after all, shoot-outs are not uncommon). Quote
Noj Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Montreal, 60 pts. Or am I banned from participating? Quote

The cold weather gives them the advantage! I posted that and didn't check the board or my email all day so I missed GA's message! Quote
GA Russell Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 OK Greg, I'm putting you down for Sask - 50. Quote
BFrank Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Saskatchewan Roughriders - 30 pts (it's gonna be a low-scoring affair, I'm sure) Since I no nothing about the CFL (which is only slightly less than I know about the NFL), I figure I should do pretty well in this pool! Go ROUGHRIDERS! Quote
