golfcrazy1984 Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Just voted! I think it works...no hanging chads here..! Quote
JSngry Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 I've always had to work for my jazz and my dinner both, so I guess my answer is also "no". Quote
BFrank Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 I could never understand what "dinner jazz" was supposed to mean. Quote
Dave James Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 I could never understand what "dinner jazz" was supposed to mean. That's why this poll really doesn't make sense. Dinner Jazz is a specific thing. It was a term coined by radio programmers in an attempt to to offer less challenging music geared to the more sophisticated listener wishing to unwind after a hard day at the office. When I was a jock on KMHD, we had a dinner jazz show Monday thru Friday between 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. We were asked to present the softer side of good jazz during that hour. Being the big fan of jazz balladry that I am, I never had a problem with it. Some did. Quote
BeBop Posted March 5, 2011 Author Report Posted March 5, 2011 I'd posted the poll because, as I travel about, I encounter this phenomenon many places - "Jazz at Twilight", "Jazz Oasis", "Evening Jazz".... I must conclude that there is a demand for it. But I don't personally find it satisfying. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Never really heard the term "dinner jazz" used (seriously), but I am familiar with "dinner music"... Take your pick... Quote
Dave James Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Perhaps this will shed some light on what is a very complex issue. As a personal aside, I'm particularly taken with the two gals on the left and the guy on the right with the brutal porn stash. Quote

Have tuned in on many an evening- and not to talk over during dinner, either, but to actually listen. Inspired a number of CD purchases over the years. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 I think there's a place for it - I often program a Houston Person Highnote release when we have guests for dinner. Its pleasant to them, and if the conversation bores me I can concentrate on the music. Quote
