Orrin Evans

I've seen Orrin Evans' name over the past few years but have yet to pull the trigger on anything by him. He seems to get very positive write ups. The NPR site had streaming audio of new big band CD last week. The audio has now gone from their site and the CD doesn't appear to be available from the usual on-line suspects. Any recommendations where to start.? I'm sold on getting the big band set as it sounded pretty damn good.

The Bobby Watson tribute, Faith In Action, is excellent. I also really enjoy the Tarbaby CDs. Looking forward to receiving the big band disc on Posi-Tone.

I ordered the Big Band CD from Positone. Arrived yesterday and it's very good indeed . Wonderful stuff

He's on Ralph Bowen's Power Play, which also is on Posi-Tone. I had never heard Bowen before, but it's a good album.

This morning, I listened to his other new CD on Posi Tone, Freedom, which is mostly a trio recording, featuring many of the songs he played last week at Smalls (with a super quintet). Freedom is quite good.
